25 cultural venues, five hours, one ticket – Hannover's big museum night on the eve of the Pentecost weekend
The Night of the Museums will take place in 2026 on Saturday, June 6th – five hours between 6 PM and 11:30 PM, during which Hannover's city center will be transformed into a large cultural space. The major institutions are involved, as well as smaller, often less well-known ones: the Landesmuseum Hannover, the Sprengel Museum, the Historisches Museum, the Museum August Kestner, the Wilhelm Busch – Deutsches Museum für Karikatur und Zeichenkunst, as well as numerous art associations, galleries, and off-spaces.
This year's special project is titled Voices of the City. Various choirs will parade through the city center on two routes, performing at changing locations. The idea: to carry the soundscape of the museum night beyond the walls of the individual venues into public spaces. Visitors can either follow a specific choir or switch between routes.
The KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, one of Germany's most renowned contemporary cultural festivals, is also participating this year with its own program items. This connects classical museum operations with the avant-garde of the international performance and sound art scene.
A shuttle system will be set up between the widely dispersed venues for the Night of the Museums. The ticket also serves as a travel pass for the shuttles and selected lines of Hannover's public transport.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept of previous years and adds new accents. With the choir project Voices of the City, public space is actively integrated, and with the participation of the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, contemporary performance art is brought more into focus.
The participating venues develop their own programs – from curated special tours and hands-on activities for families to concerts and live performances. The exact program items per venue will be published in the weeks leading up to the event.
The exact program for all participating venues will be gradually published by the organizer in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 6 PM to 11:30 PM.
Admission: 7 Euros for the entire program and all participating venues. Tickets are available online via the official website, at the box offices of the participating museums, and on the evening of the event on-site. Children and young people generally have free or reduced admission.
Most venues are located in Hannover's city center or within walking distance of the main train station. Trams and buses will take visitors to more distant locations. The ticket serves as a travel pass for shuttle buses and selected public transport lines.
The complete program for all 25 venues will be published on the official website of the state capital Hannover. A printed program flyer will be available free of charge on-site.
