Five evenings of artistic shows at the Erlebnis-Zoo – 50 artists from aerial acrobatics, comedy, juggling, and light art
The Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover is one of the most beautiful and most visited zoos in Germany. With its six themed worlds – including Sambesi, Yukon Bay, Dschungelpalast, and Mullewapp – it creates special atmospheres that unfold quite differently after dark than during the day. The Nacht der Erlebnisse uses these backdrops for a top-class artistic program.
The series is organized in collaboration with Feuerwerk der Turnkunst, one of the most prominent German touring shows for gymnastics and acrobatics. For over three decades, Feuerwerk der Turnkunst has toured annually through Germany's major cities, combining gymnastics, acrobatics, dance, and show elements into its own stage language. For the Nacht der Erlebnisse, the Feuerwerk team, in collaboration with the zoo, is curating a program tailored to the specific spatial characteristics of the grounds.
Around 50 artists perform at changing locations within the zoo. The disciplines include aerial acrobatics (in aerial silks, on trapezes, and swings), ground and table artistry, juggling, comedy, and walking acts. Light installations accompany the performances, creating a continuous atmosphere. The audience moves freely through the zoo, creating their own parcours through the themed worlds.
Many animal species exhibit different behavior at dusk and in the early night hours compared to the daytime. The Nacht der Erlebnisse leverages this biological background: visitors can observe some animals in unusual activity, which is rarely possible on a normal zoo day. Keepers are on-site to explain the nocturnal behavior of the animals.
As in previous years, the program is spread across the entire zoo grounds. Performance venues include the central squares in the Sambesi, Yukon Bay, Dschungelpalast, and Mullewapp themed worlds, as well as selected paths and platforms. The audience wanders freely through the zoo, curating their own evening.
Feuerwerk der Turnkunst ensures that the artistic contributions are high-quality and professional. The exact artist list and performance locations will be published by the zoo in the weeks leading up to the event on zoo-hannover.de.
