Schützenfest Hänigsen — Tradition since 1925
The Bürgerschützenverein Hänigsen e.V. was founded in 1925 and hosts the local Schützenfest every year in June. In the municipality of Uetze, there are several shooting festivals — in addition to the main Schützenfest in Uetze itself, districts like Hänigsen also celebrate their own shooting dates. This makes shooting culture in the eastern Hannover region particularly dense: numerous dates are spread throughout the year, shaping village club life.
Three Days of Shooting Customs
The Hänigsen Schützenfest follows the classic dramaturgy of a Lower Saxony shooting festival. Friday evening marks the opening with the inauguration, initial competition rounds, and a dance evening. Saturday is dedicated to receptions, the king's shoot, and a grand dance evening. Sunday concludes with a celebratory church service, a grand parade, the coronation of the new majesties, and the king's ball. Throughout all three days, food stalls, catering, and possibly amusement rides ensure a Volksfest atmosphere.
Hänigsen as a Festival Location
Hänigsen is a historically developed district with its own village center, its own church, and an active club life. 2026 is a special year — the district celebrates its 800th anniversary and has already had a historical highlight with the grand 800-year celebration at the end of April and beginning of May. The Schützenfest in June complements this series of anniversaries with another traditional event and underscores the identity-forming power of club life.
Village Community and Guests
Like many local shooting festivals, the Hänigsen festival thrives on the voluntary commitment of club members, friendly clubs, and numerous helpers. The audience ranges from local families and returning former residents to guests from neighboring districts and the wider Hannover region. Those who experience the Hänigsen Schützenfest experience a piece of lived Lower Saxony festival culture.
