Four-day May festival on the Thieplatz in the spa town of Bad Laer on the Teutoburg Forest
For several years now, the MY DORF Maifest has been a firm fixture in the Bad Laer event calendar, organized by the municipality together with local clubs. The festival traditionally opens on the evening of April 30th with the 'Tanz in den Mai', which attracts residents from the entire municipality—from Bad Laer itself and its districts Remsede, Westerwiede, and Müschen to guests from the neighboring communities of Bad Rothenfelde, Glandorf, and Hilter. The central Thieplatz with its old linden trees provides the historic backdrop that gives the festival its special character.
On the following days, the festival grounds entice with carousels for the youngest guests, gastronomic stands, regional specialties, and a stage program ranging from live music and DJ sets to performances by local clubs. May 1st is considered Family Day with a particularly well-attended program, while the extended weekend provides a relaxed conclusion. Classic May celebration elements such as the raising of the Maibaum (Maypole) and the Frühschoppen (morning pint) on Sunday have always been part of the festivities.
Bad Laer, a recognized salt spa town, thrives on the connection between spa operations and local customs. The May festival is part of a series of other Bad Laer highlights, including the Leinewebermarkt (Weaver's Market) in September, the Schützenfest Remsede (Marksmen's Festival) in early summer, and the Fackelfest (Torch Festival). Visitors to the May festival can combine their stay with a walk at the Salzsiedehaus (salt boiling house), a visit to the Kurpark (spa gardens), or a hike in the southern Teutoburg Forest.
The 2026 edition of the MY DORF Maifest is classically spread over four festival days around May 1st. Thursday evening kicks off the program with the 'Tanz in den Mai', on Friday and Saturday the festival grounds are dedicated to catering, stage program, and carousels, and on Sunday, the Frühschoppen provides a relaxed conclusion. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring.
As in previous years, local clubs are involved in catering and the supporting program. The stage at the Thieplatz offers space for live music, dance performances, and small show formats.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: dance evening, family day, club participation, and Frühschoppen.
