About Mußbacher Spitzen

The Mußbacher Spitzen is a traditional wine tasting event where the winegrowers of the Palatinate wine village Mußbach present their best young wines — the top wines of the vintage — on the first weekend of March. On two days, Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day, several winegrower courtyards will open their doors simultaneously. With a single day ticket or a two-day ticket, guests can move between the stations and stroll through the village. New in 2026 is the Herrenhof station with the Staatsweingut/Johannitergut, the oldest winery in the Palatinate. The Mußbacher Spitzen mark the quality-conscious start to the season before the major public wine festivals.

The Mußbacher Spitzen is one of the most respected spring wine tastings in the Palatinate. Unlike traditional public wine festivals, the focus here is not on drinking wine outdoors, but on the guided tasting of the youngest and best wines of the current vintage directly in the winegrowers' courtyards.

On two days, Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day, several Mußbach wineries will present the top wines of the vintage. The event stations are all located in the wine village of Mußbach, which is the largest of Neustadt's eight wine villages in terms of area, together with Lachen-Speyerdorf. With a single admission ticket, guests can move between the courtyards and create their own tasting route through the village.

The focus is on the Riesling, Weißburgunder, and Grauburgunder from Mußbach vineyards — including renowned sites like Mußbacher Eselshaut and Herrenletten. The winegrowers personally comment on their wines, answering questions about the vineyard site, vintage, and production. This direct encounter with the producers is what makes the festival so special.

A significant innovation in 2026 is the opening of a tasting station at the Herrenhof Mußbach, the state winery with the historic Johannitergut — the oldest winery in the Palatinate with a history dating back to the 12th century. Here, the state winery will present experimental and top wines, adding a special historical and oenological dimension to the Mußbach tasting.

Accompanying the wine tasting, the participating courtyards often offer small snacks and Palatinate specialties. The cool, sometimes sunny March atmosphere, the still quiet mood before the public wine festivals, and the personal encounters with the winegrowers make the Mußbacher Spitzen a insider tip for wine lovers.

Mußbacher Spitzen — edition 2026

The Mußbacher Spitzen 2026 will take place on the first weekend of March: Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Several Mußbach winegrower courtyards will open their doors simultaneously to present their top wines of the new vintage. New in 2026 is the Herrenhof station with the Staatsweingut/Johannitergut. With a single day ticket (€25) or a two-day ticket (€35), you can move freely between stations — a rare opportunity to experience the vintage top wines from several Mußbach wineries in direct comparison.

The Mußbacher Spitzen 2026, on the weekend of March 7 and 8, offers a particularly quality-conscious start to the Palatinate wine season. Over two five-hour periods, the participating Mußbach winegrowers will present their best wines — predominantly dry Rieslings, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Silvaner, and Burgunder Crémants.

The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: opening of the participating courtyards at 1 p.m., commented tastings in conversation with the winegrowers, small snacks and Palatinate specialties as accompaniment, free movement between stations with the joint admission ticket until 6 p.m.
