Year-long festival program for the 100th anniversary of Museum Heylshof
The Museum Heylshof at Stephansgasse 9, directly opposite the Worms Cathedral, is one of the lesser-known highlights of Worms' cultural landscape. It originates from the patronage of the Worms leather industrialist family Heyl, who amassed an extensive art collection in the second half of the 19th century. In 1926, the collection was made accessible to the public, leading to the establishment of the Museum Heylshof.
On two floors, the Heylshof presents paintings from the 16th to 19th centuries—including works from German, Dutch, and French schools—sculptures, precious crafts (porcelain, furniture, tapestries), and a small but fine collection of medieval treasures. The institution is among the most remarkable privately founded museums in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The year 2026 marks the museum's 100th birthday. Throughout the year, special exhibitions, lectures, concerts, and retrospectives will take place to honor the history of the house and the diversity of its collections. Exact dates can be found on heylshof.de.
In recognition of its cultural significance, the Museum Heylshof was honored as "Museum of the Month March 2026" by the Ministry of Family, Women, Culture, and Integration of Rhineland-Palatinate. This award acknowledges outstanding museum work in Rhineland-Palatinate and adds significant weight to the anniversary year.
The year-long anniversary program offers an occasion to rediscover the relatively unknown art museum opposite the Worms Cathedral. Regular visitors and newcomers alike will find special reasons to visit.
A cultural day in Worms can be well-rounded by visiting St. Peter's Cathedral, the Museum Heylshof, and the Andreasstift Museum.
The exact program for 2026 will be continuously published by the museum. The structure follows the established cornerstones of the anniversary concept:
