About Münster Children's Music Festival

From September 21 to 27, 2026, the Kindermusikfestival Münster brings thirteen concerts to the city center and surrounding districts—ranging from the Markuskirche in Kinderhaus and Café Lorenz in Berg Fidel to a ward at the UKM-Zentralklinikum. The festival is hosted by the group Karibuni – Weltmusik für Kinder, joined by the Pindakaas Saxophon Quartett from the Münsterland region and Berlin-based children's songwriter Cattu, der Traumfänger. The event concludes on September 27 at 3:00 PM with a joint concert featuring all performers at the Theater im Pumpenhaus. All currently announced concerts are free of charge.

Five years of the Kindermusikfestival in Münster

The Kindermusikfestival Münster celebrates its fifth edition in 2026. The festival is organized and hosted by the group Karibuni – Weltmusik für Kinder, led by Josephine Kronfli and Pit Budde, who were the first to introduce the concept of "world music for children" in Germany. "Karibuni" means "Welcome" in Kiswahili—a fitting title for a festival that invites the whole family to sing and dance along.

Thirteen concerts across the city

Instead of a single central stage, musicians will perform at thirteen different locations throughout the city center and local districts. Announced venues for 2026 include the Markuskirche at Idenbrockplatz in Münster-Kinderhaus, Café Lorenz in Berg Fidel, and a ward at the UKM-Zentralklinikum on the Albert-Schweitzer-Campus. Hosting a children's concert in a hospital setting is central to the festival's philosophy: bringing music directly to where the children are.

The 2026 lineup

In addition to Karibuni – Weltmusik für Kinder, the 2026 program features the Pindakaas Saxophon Quartett from Münsterland and Cattu, der Traumfänger, a children's songwriter from Berlin. All participating artists will perform together for the grand finale on September 27 at 3:00 PM at the Theater im Pumpenhaus.

Children's culture in Münster

Münster, a university city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the heart of the Münsterland region, boasts a vibrant cultural scene. The Theater im Pumpenhaus, a former waterworks facility north of the city center, is a staple for independent performing arts. The Kindermusikfestival leverages this infrastructure while expanding into unconventional performance spaces like churches, cafés, and hospitals.

Münster Children's Music Festival — edition 2026

The fifth edition of the Kindermusikfestival Münster takes place from September 21 to 27, 2026, featuring thirteen individual concerts across the city center and surrounding districts. Featured artists include Karibuni – Weltmusik für Kinder, the Pindakaas Saxophon Quartett, and Cattu, der Traumfänger.
