Three days of Markgräflerland wine, live music, and an oldtimer meet in Müllheim's old town
Müllheim — the capital of Markgräflerland in the far southwest of Baden — celebrates its traditional town festival from June 26 to 28, 2026. The historic old town with its sandstone houses, the Margrave's Palace, and St. Martin's Church transforms into a festival site with numerous catering and sales stands.
The kick-off is on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 5:00 PM at St. Martin's Church. Mayor Martin Löffler will perform the traditional barrel tapping — a Markgräfler custom that officially begins the festival. St. Martin's Church, Müllheim's spiritual landmark dating back to the 13th century, provides the historic backdrop.
The culinary centerpiece is the wine from Markgräflerland. Local vintners from Müllheim, Britzingen, Sulzburg, Auggen, Müllheim-Niederweiler, and surrounding communities present their current vintages: Gutedel (the Markgräfler specialty), Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, and Rieslaner. Markgräfler wines are characterized by their elegance, minerality, and drinkability — perfect for the summer town festival atmosphere.
Throughout the three festival days, a diverse music program will be featured on several stages. Live bands from Markgräflerland and neighboring Alsace, cover bands, DJ sets, brass bands — the musical variety reflects the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the border region (Switzerland, France, Germany just a few kilometers away).
The highlight of Sunday, June 28, is the oldtimer meet starting at 10:00 AM on Werderstraße. Classic automobiles and vintage vehicles from the wider region will be on display — from 1920s classics and post-war models to oldtimers from the 1970s and 80s. Registration forms are available at www.muellheim-touristik.de; a free event for both exhibitors and visitors.
Müllheim, a city of around 18,000 inhabitants, is located in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, in southern Markgräflerland between Freiburg and Basel. The city combines Baden wine culture, southern serenity, and urban infrastructure — a typical profile of the tri-border region. The town festival is one of the most important summer dates in the Markgräfler festival calendar.
From Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28, 2026, Müllheim's old town transforms into a festival ground. The traditional opening ceremony with barrel tapping by Mayor Martin Löffler takes place on Friday at 5:00 PM at St. Martin's Church.
For three days, local vintners will present their Markgräfler wines — especially Gutedel, the Markgräfler specialty, as well as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Riesling. Live bands from Markgräflerland, neighboring Alsace, and the Basel region will provide music on several stages. Sunday features the popular oldtimer meet on Werderstraße — classic automobiles from the region.
