Pentecost with arts and crafts market and traditional dance at the Mill Museum
The International Mill Museum Gifhorn offers a special event for Pentecost: an arts and crafts market on the village square, combined with admission to the museum with its 16 mills and the Russian Orthodox wooden church. From Whit Saturday to Whit Monday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, the exhibitors, the family program, and the milling demonstrations (weather permitting) ensure a varied weekend.
The market brings together regional artisans with a diverse offering: handmade jewelry, garden decorations made of metal and ceramics, creative books and prints, woodwork, textiles, and leather goods. The village square with its historic houses provides the ideal backdrop for a relaxed market stroll.
A highlight on Whit Monday are the performances by the traditional dance group USK Gifhorn at 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM, and 3:00 PM. The dancers in historic Frisian-Lower Saxon traditional costume perform folk dances that preserve the region's customs. The performances take place outdoors on the village square and are freely accessible.
Admission to the village square is free during the Mühlenfest – an attractive offer that allows access to the arts and crafts market without barriers. Those who wish to visit the entire museum grounds with the mills and the Russian Orthodox wooden church pay the regular museum admission fee. Combining both offers is the typical way to plan a Pentecost excursion in Gifhorn.
The Gifhorn Mill Museum is one of the most famous excursion destinations between Wolfsburg and Hannover. Families travel from all over eastern Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Pentecost, as a long weekend, is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year.
