Traditional district festival with amusement rides and market stalls in Karlsruhe West
The Mühlburger Kerwe is the largest traditional district festival in Karlsruhe West and one of the most important highlights of Mühlburg's community life. The 47th edition in 2026 runs from Thursday, September 10th, to Monday, September 14th, 2026, on the central Fliederplatz. The Kerwe is organized by the Mühlburg Citizens' Association in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Market Office, the showman's association, and the catering services around caterer Andreas Ludwig.
Opening on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at 6:00 PM with the traditional barrel tapping by the chairman of the Citizens' Association. The large festival tent offers space for several hundred visitors. Live bands play in the evenings — Schlager, Cover Pop, Rock, and Brass Music alternate on stage. The mix of traditional mood music (Friday Seniors) and party bands (Saturday evening) is typical for the Mühlburger Kerwe and attracts a broad audience from regulars to young Karlsruhe students.
Each festival day has its own character:
Traditional amusement rides (carousels, chain swings, bumper cars, shooting galleries, cotton candy, and almond stands) fill the festival grounds. On Saturday, a market with over 100 stalls expands the festival mile around Fliederplatz — household goods, clothing, direct marketers, toys. In the festival tent and at the stalls, you'll find traditional festival food: Bratwurst, fries, currywurst, steak, crêpes, gingerbread hearts, potato pancakes, Maultaschen.
Mühlburg (around 18,000 inhabitants) is one of Karlsruhe's most traditional western districts, formerly an independent municipality until its incorporation in 1886. Fliederplatz is the geographical heart of Mühlburg and the traditional festival site. With tram connections (lines S 1, S 5, S 51, 2 — Mühlburg stop), Mühlburg is reachable from Karlsruhe city center in about 10 minutes.
