World's largest medieval festival with jousting tournament, medieval market stalls, large music stage, and pyrotechnics – last year in its current format
The Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum (MPS) Speyer is one of the world's largest medieval festivals and one of the most spectacular events of the southern German event season. The MPS tour stops at several locations each year – in Speyer, the Spectaculum traditionally takes place at the end of August.
The 2026 edition is a special historical edition: It is the last year in its current format. A new concept is planned from 2027 onwards, which will transform the festival into a changed form. Thus, 2026 is the last opportunity to experience the MPS in its familiar guise.
The event area includes the Unteren Domgarten – directly in the shadow of the UNESCO World Heritage Imperial Cathedral – and the adjacent Rheinstadionwiesen. This setting is unique: one of the largest Romanesque churches in the world forms the backdrop for a medieval festival that brings the Romanesque and Gothic eras to life. It couldn't be more atmospheric.
Admission prices:
The significantly higher Saturday prices are due to the spectacular evening program with concerts and fire shows.
Those who come in medieval or fantasy attire are especially appreciated. Many regular visitors to the MPS invest in their own historical costumes and let the festival transport them to another time.
The 2026 edition is a special historical occasion: it is the last time the MPS Speyer will take place in its familiar form. Thousands of medieval enthusiasts from all over Germany are expected – many in self-made costumes – to immerse themselves in another era for two days. The combination of spectacle (jousting tournament, pyrotechnics), market atmosphere (hundreds of stalls), and music (medieval rock bands) makes the MPS unique.
