The Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum (MPS) Speyer is one of the world's largest medieval festivals and one of the most spectacular events of the southern German event season. The MPS tour stops at several locations each year – in Speyer, the Spectaculum traditionally takes place at the end of August.

Last Year in Its Current Format

The 2026 edition is a special historical edition: It is the last year in its current format. A new concept is planned from 2027 onwards, which will transform the festival into a changed form. Thus, 2026 is the last opportunity to experience the MPS in its familiar guise.

Location: Unterer Domgarten and Rheinstadionwiesen

The event area includes the Unteren Domgarten – directly in the shadow of the UNESCO World Heritage Imperial Cathedral – and the adjacent Rheinstadionwiesen. This setting is unique: one of the largest Romanesque churches in the world forms the backdrop for a medieval festival that brings the Romanesque and Gothic eras to life. It couldn't be more atmospheric.

Program Highlights

  • Jousting Tournament: The heart of every MPS edition. Professional knights in historically accurate armor engage in jousting, sword fights, and equestrian games. Spectacular staging with pyrotechnics and musical accompaniment.
  • Hundreds of Medieval Market Stalls: Arts and crafts, medieval clothing, jewelry, weapon replicas, leather goods, incense, and much more.
  • Large Music Stage: Medieval rock, folk rock, minstrel music, and medieval classics. Well-known bands like In Extremo, Subway to Sally, or Schandmaul regularly perform at the MPS.
  • Pyrotechnics: Fire shows and pyrotechnic displays characterize the evening program.
  • Medieval Culinary Delights: Campfire specialties, mead, beer, wine, and hearty dishes from wood-fired ovens.

Opening Hours and Admission

  • Saturday, August 22, 2026: 11 AM to 12 AM.
  • Sunday, August 23, 2026: 11 AM to 7 PM.

Admission prices:

  • Saturday: ages 7–14 €35, ages 15+ €70.
  • Sunday: ages 7–14 €12, ages 15+ €25.

The significantly higher Saturday prices are due to the spectacular evening program with concerts and fire shows.

Costumed Visitors Welcome

Those who come in medieval or fantasy attire are especially appreciated. Many regular visitors to the MPS invest in their own historical costumes and let the festival transport them to another time.
