The Mosel Musikfestival is one of Germany's most prestigious classical summer festivals. Over several weeks, around 50 concerts take place throughout the Mosel region – in historic churches, monasteries, castles, wineries, and townhouses. The festival is characterized by its high artistic level and its aim to present classical music and its neighboring genres in extraordinary locations.

Opening Concert 2026 at Kloster Machern

The 2026 season will open on Thursday, July 23rd, at Kloster Machern near Bernkastel-Kues. The former Cistercian monastery, now part of a hotel and event complex, offers an acoustically and atmospherically exceptional backdrop for classical concerts.

Avi Avital – A Mandolin Star

Avi Avital is the world's most renowned classical mandolinist. The Israeli musician, born in Be'er Sheva and living in Berlin, is Grammy-nominated and regularly tours with the world's major orchestras and chamber music ensembles. His playing combines classical precision with folk, jazz, and improvisational elements.

Omer Klein – A Jazz Pianist with Classical Depth

Omer Klein is one of the leading jazz pianists on the Israeli-European scene. His trio and solo projects move between jazz, classical music, improvisation, and Mediterranean influences. The encounter with Avi Avital at Kloster Machern promises an exceptional dialogue between mandolin and piano, classical and jazz.

A Season with 50 Concerts

The opening concert marks the start of a season that runs until October 3rd, 2026, and presents around 50 concerts throughout the Mosel region. The venues range from Trier to Bernkastel-Kues, Traben-Trarbach, Wittlich, Cochem, and the small Mosel villages with their historic churches.
