International Chamber Music Festival under the direction of Jan Vogler
The Moritzburg Festival is one of the most important chamber music festivals worldwide and the musical flagship of the state of Saxony in high summer. Founded in 1993 by Kai Vogler, Peter Bruns, and Jan Vogler, the festival has gained international renown under the artistic direction of Jan Vogler. Moritzburg Castle – the famous Saxon hunting and summer palace of Augustus the Strong in the Meißen district – forms its symbolic home; however, concerts also take place in Dresden's Frauenkirche, the Kulturpalast Dresden, and other venues in the region.
A hallmark of the festival is the Moritzburg Festival Academy: every year, talented young musicians from all over the world are invited to play together with established soloists. The academy participants also form the international Moritzburg Festival Orchestra, led by chief conductor Josep Caballé Domenech. This mix of world stars and up-and-coming artists gives the concerts a special energy.
Concerts take place in a variety of extraordinary locations: on the North Terrace of Moritzburg Castle (open air with a view of the castle pond), in the Moritzburg Church, in the Käthe-Kollwitz-Haus in Moritzburg, in the Frauenkirche Dresden, in the Kulturpalast Dresden, and in the Schlosspark Proschwitz. This blend of intimate chamber music and grand acoustics makes the program a journey through the Saxon cultural landscape every time.
The festival is part of the great tradition of Saxon classical music: Bach in Leipzig, the Dresden Music Festival, the festivals at the Felsenbühne Rathen – and the Moritzburg Festival every summer. Anyone who loves chamber music should not miss this event in August.
The 34th edition of the Moritzburg Festival, under the artistic direction of Jan Vogler, once again brings together an internationally cast program at several venues in Saxony. This year's master concerts are themed «1726» – a thematic year referring to the late Baroque period and the generation around Johann Sebastian Bach from a music-historical perspective. The Festival Academy will host 42 young musicians who will play alongside the invited stars.
The complete detailed program for 2026 will be published by the festival office in spring 2026. The following structures are already known for the 2026 edition:
