About Kerwe Mönchzell

On the third weekend of September 2026 — presumably from September 18th to 20th — the Mönchzell district of Meckesheim (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg) will once again celebrate its traditional Mönchzeller Kerwe. It is organized by the Minischzeller Kiwwelschisser e.V., a Kerwe association that organizes the Kirchweih annually in cooperation with numerous local associations. For three days, the area around the Lobbachhalle transforms into a convivial festival ground with catering, live music, the Kerwepredigt (Kirchweih sermon), and a colorful festival parade. Each year, the festival is held under a new motto — from "Western" to "Middle Ages" and "Pirates" to the most recent "FlowerPower". A true village Kerwe in the Kraichgau region, down-to-earth, lively, and for the whole family.

Mönchzeller Kerwe — Kirchweih with Kraichgau Tradition

The Mönchzeller Kerwe is the annual Kirchweih of Mönchzell, a district of Meckesheim. The organizers are the Minischzeller Kiwwelschisser e.V. — a registered Kerwe association that carries the humorous local nickname of the Mönchzell residents in its name and has been responsible for the Kerwe's program for years. Traditionally, many local associations participate: the music association, the sports club, the fire department, the rural women's association — each association takes over an area of catering or the program.

Around the Lobbachhalle

The festival grounds are located around the Lobbachhalle in Mönchzell — the central multi-purpose hall of the district, named after the stream that flows through the village. In good weather, the main activities take place outdoors, with a festival tent, beer garden, and stalls; the hall serves as an alternative space and dance floor. The rural setting with orchards and gentle Kraichgau hills contributes to the special charm of this Kerwe.

Three Days of Festival Program with a New Motto Each Year

A special feature of the Mönchzeller Kerwe is the annually changing motto, which shapes the decoration, performances, and often the Kerwepredigt. Past mottos included "Pirate" (2024), "Middle Ages" (2023), "Western" (2016), and most recently "FlowerPower". The association members fully embrace the costumes, the festival parade is thematically designed, and even the festival tent is decorated accordingly.

Classics of the Kerwe Weekend

As befits a Kraichgau Kerwe, there are a few fixed program points: the Kerwepredigt with ironic and tongue-in-cheek reviews of the village year, the festival parade of the associations, the Kerwetanz (Kirchweih dance) with live music or a DJ, and the community meal with cold and warm dishes, sausages, steaks, fries, Pfälzer Saumagen — and of course, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. The atmosphere is familial — almost everyone knows everyone, and visitors from the neighboring towns of Meckesheim, Eschelbronn, and Spechbach gladly mingle with the Mönchzell residents.

Mönchzell and Meckesheim

With about 1,500 inhabitants, Mönchzell is a seemingly independent district of the municipality of Meckesheim, which has around 5,600 inhabitants and is located in the southern Rhein-Neckar district at the transition from the Kraichgau to the Kleiner Odenwald. The Heidelberg–Sinsheim railway line (S-Bahn RheinNeckar) takes you from Heidelberg to Meckesheim in 20 minutes, from where you can continue by bus or walk across the fields to Mönchzell.

Kerwe Mönchzell — edition 2026

The Mönchzeller Kerwe 2026 will take place on the third weekend of September — presumably from Friday, September 18th to Sunday, September 20th, 2026 — around the Lobbachhalle in the Mönchzell district of Meckesheim. The organizers are the Minischzeller Kiwwelschisser e.V. with the local associations. A classic Kraichgau Kerwe program with Kerwepredigt, festival parade, association catering, and dance evenings under a new annual motto. Free admission.

Mönchzeller Kerwe 2026 — Third Weekend of September

The exact date of the Mönchzeller Kerwe 2026 will be confirmed by the Kerwe association Minischzeller Kiwwelschisser e.V. in the weeks before the festival weekend on the association's website and on Facebook. As a rule, the Kerwe runs from Friday evening to Sunday evening around the Lobbachhalle.

In 2026, the classic program points of a Mönchzeller Kerwe will again mark the weekend: the festival parade of the associations with themed floats, the tongue-in-cheek Kerwepredigt, the Kerwetanz with live music in the tent, and the communal festival meal with specialties from the association stands. The annual motto will be revealed by the association shortly before the festival.
