Medieval in the middle of the Magdeburger Börde
Völpke is a community of 1,100 inhabitants in the Börde district (AGS 15083), Saxony-Anhalt, not far from the border with Lower Saxony. Small, but culturally active: since 2022, the municipality of Obere Aller, together with the Freie Ostfälische Ritter e.V., has been organizing a medieval festival on the old sports field meadow, which is now considered a permanent fixture in the Central German medieval scene.
Program: Carpet of Sound, Sword, and Fire
On Saturday, the program runs non-stop from 2 PM to midnight: Live music by the band Saltatio Draconum, the Landsknecht music show, the minstrel "Floh". In addition, knight fights and sword fighting demonstrations by the Freie Ostfälischen Ritter, juggling and stilt acrobatics, a medieval market with craftsmen and food from the era. From 8 PM, the "Dark Middle Ages" area begins with fire shows — explicitly for adults. Sunday concludes the festival more quietly: Market from 10 AM to 3 PM, a court hearing with ordeal as a program highlight.
Admission in Taler
In the spirit of the medieval staging, admission is also thematically packaged: Adults pay 5 Taler, children free. The Saturday evening show costs an additional 5 Taler. State of Saxony-Anhalt, Börde district — an authentic medieval experience far from commercial mega-events.
