Spring highlight in Meppen's city center — music, cabaret, acrobatics, street food, and Sunday shopping
Meppen, the historic district town of the Emsland district, is one of the most beautiful city centers in the Emsland region with its compact and well-preserved old town. The Hase and Ems rivers flow together here, and the medieval town layout with its market square, town hall, and pedestrian zone provides the ideal backdrop for inner-city festivals. The Meppen May Days fully utilize this setting, creating a festival mile that stretches from Windthorstplatz through the pedestrian zone to the historic Town Hall.
Saturday opens the May Days from 6:30 PM with an evening program characterized by live music on the two stages, show acts, and the immersive atmosphere of a illuminated city festival. Sunday from 1:30 PM focuses on a day festival with Sunday shopping, during which the city center shops are open from 1 PM to 6 PM. Families will find a dedicated program with activities for children, plus concerts, cabaret, and acrobatics. The spring market offers regional products, handicrafts, and seasonal goods.
A particular strength of the Meppen May Days is the combination of music, performing arts, and culinary offerings. Street food stalls present specialties from around the world and regional classics. Live bands, cabaret artists, and acrobatics groups alternate on the two stages, offering a varied stage program that appeals to all age groups. The density of performances and the diversity of genres make the May Days a festival in an urban format.
As an absolute spring highlight, the May Days attract thousands of visitors from the entire Emsland region, the Grafschaft Bentheim, and the neighboring Netherlands. The festival is an important economic stimulus for the city center's retail trade, a cultural highlight for the population, and a flagship of Meppen's vibrant urban culture. With the combination of a city festival, market, stage program, and Sunday shopping, the event offers a unique format in the region.
The two festival days transform Meppen's city center into a festival mile. With the focus on Sunday, the program offers a comprehensive day festival character with shopping, a market, stage program, and family offerings. The exact program schedule will be announced by the organizer in advance on meppen.de.
