Three-day medieval market with jesters, knights, and fire artists
The Kaiserslautern Garden Show is one of the largest and most beautiful recreational areas in the West Palatinate and the venue for many events throughout the year. The medieval market on the May Day weekend utilizes the spacious grounds with meadows, groves, and permanent event areas for an extraordinary staging: a medieval town is built into nature for three days, allowing visitors to wander through the grounds and gather impressions at various stations.
Historical market stalls offer crafts in a medieval style: blacksmith work, leather goods, felt products, medieval-style jewelry, candles, woodwork, pottery, and glass art. Many artisans work on-site and demonstrate their techniques. This combination of sales and craft demonstrations provides an educational added value to the market.
The stage and show program is diverse: jesters and jugglers perform at several stations, knights demonstrate mock fights in full armor, and fire artists showcase their skills in the evening. These program elements are integrated into the market activities, allowing visitors to move from station to station and gather different impressions.
The market is explicitly designed to be family-friendly. Children can practice at archery ranges, try medieval games, listen in the fairy tale corner, or simply observe the colorful hustle and bustle. The medieval kitchen offers food from wood-fired ovens, mead (honey wine), historical breads, stews, grilled items, and sweet specialties. This combination of performance, market atmosphere, and culinary delights makes the May visit a full-day experience.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer and Kaiserslautern Garden Show on gartenschau-kl.de and mittelaltermarkt.online.
