About Martini-Kerwe Dörrenbach 2026

From November 6th to 9th, 2026, Dörrenbach celebrates its traditional Martini-Kerwe – one of the last and most vibrant Kirchweih festivals in the Bad Bergzaberner Land. In the picturesque half-timbered village on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, the village square and alleys transform into a festival ground with catering, live music, a dance evening, and a family program. The festival is named after St. Martin, whose day on November 11th traditionally marks the end of the agricultural year. In Dörrenbach, this tradition continues with particular intensity, making the Martini-Kerwe one of the social highlights of the year.

The Dörrenbach Martini-Kerwe is one of the oldest and most vibrant Kirchweih traditions in the Bad Bergzaberner Land. Its name derives from St. Martin's Day on November 11th, which historically marked the end of the agricultural year and the beginning of winter. While many Palatinate Kirchweih festivals are celebrated in early autumn, Dörrenbach preserves the late autumn tradition – making the village a meeting point for the entire region on this weekend.

Dörrenbach as the Venue

With just around 1,050 inhabitants, Dörrenbach is one of the smaller communities in the Bad Bergzaberner Land, but it is one of the most beautiful villages in the region in terms of landscape and architecture. The half-timbered village on the edge of the Palatinate Forest has exceptionally well-preserved historical substance; the fortified St. Martin's Church from the 16th century is one of the best-preserved fortified churches in the Palatinate and gives the Kirchweih its name. This setting gives the Martini-Kerwe its special charm.

Four Days of Tradition

The festival traditionally runs from Friday to Monday. It opens on Friday evening with the traditional performance of the Kerweborscht – a group of young men from the village who humorously and irreverently open the Kirchweih with speeches and performances. Saturday and Sunday are the main days with a dance evening, live music, and large crowds. Monday is Family Day with a morning pint and a quieter conclusion.

Palatinate Cuisine

Clubs and restaurateurs serve classic Palatinate specialties: Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with pork, bread, and spices), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Dampfnudeln mit Weinsoße (sweet yeast dumplings with wine sauce), accompanied by Palatinate wines from Dörrenbach and neighboring vineyards, as well as Federweißer (young wine) from the current harvest. The proceeds go to club activities and community projects.
