Traditional Martinimarkt with Sunday shopping and lantern parade on Sillenbucher Meile
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Sillenbucher Meile along Kirchheimer Straße will transform into the traditional Martinimarkt. The organizer is the Aktionsgemeinschaft Sillenbucher Meile e.V., which bundles business and club life around Sillenbuch's main axis as a district initiative.
The Martinimarkt offers a classic mix of market stalls and district program:
With around 25,000 inhabitants, Sillenbuch is one of the green districts in eastern Stuttgart. Characterized by forests (Eichbergwald), orchards, and small-scale development, the district has retained its own character between big city and suburban idyll. Sillenbuch consists of three sub-districts: Sillenbuch itself, Heumaden, and Riedenberg. The Sillenbucher Meile along Kirchheimer Straße forms the heart of business life.
St. Martin's Day (November 11) commemorates Saint Martin of Tours, who, according to legend, shared his cloak with a freezing beggar. In Germany, the day is celebrated with lantern parades, St. Martin's geese, and Martinimärkte — especially in predominantly Catholic regions, but increasingly also celebrated ecumenically and secularly. The Sillenbuch Martinimarkt combines this tradition with modern district life.
The Aktionsgemeinschaft Sillenbucher Meile organizes several events throughout the year, of which the Martinimarkt is one of the largest. The aim is to strengthen the local business community and profile Sillenbuch as a vibrant Stuttgart district with its own identity — away from the central downtown area around Königstraße.
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Aktionsgemeinschaft Sillenbucher Meile invites you to the traditional Martinimarkt. Kirchheimer Straße in Stuttgart-Sillenbuch becomes a pedestrian market mile with stalls, stage program, and a lantern parade.
Sillenbuch's shops open their doors for Sunday shopping from 12 PM to 5 PM — one of the few times a year when shopping is allowed on Sundays in Stuttgart. Thus, the market combines traditional folk culture (St. Martin customs, lanterns) with vibrant district commerce.
Free admission. Goods, food, and drinks at usual market prices.
By suburban train: U7 or U8 stop Sillenbuch — directly on Kirchheimer Straße. By car: B27 exit Sillenbuch or via Heumadener Straße. Parking in the surrounding residential streets (usually easy to find on Sundays in Sillenbuch).
Free admission. Food, drinks, and goods at usual market prices.
Combine your visit to the market with a walk through the Eichbergwald forest or a detour to the Park der Villa Reitzenstein (seat of the Minister-President) in Sillenbuch-Heumaden. The U7 takes you to Stuttgart city center in 20 minutes.
