Martinimarkt Sillenbuch — District Festival on St. Martin's Day

On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Sillenbucher Meile along Kirchheimer Straße will transform into the traditional Martinimarkt. The organizer is the Aktionsgemeinschaft Sillenbucher Meile e.V., which bundles business and club life around Sillenbuch's main axis as a district initiative.

Program — Market, Lanterns, and Sunday Shopping

The Martinimarkt offers a classic mix of market stalls and district program:

  • Market stalls with arts and crafts, regional specialties, clothing, and seasonal gifts
  • Culinary delights with bratwurst, potato pancakes, Maultaschen, mulled wine, punch, and sweet classics
  • Lantern parade in homage to the St. Martin tradition — children with homemade lanterns parade through the neighborhood accompanied by music and adults
  • Sunday shopping from 12 to 5 PM — Sillenbucher Meile stores are open
  • Musical program on the market stage with local bands and ensembles

Sillenbuch — District in Stuttgart East

With around 25,000 inhabitants, Sillenbuch is one of the green districts in eastern Stuttgart. Characterized by forests (Eichbergwald), orchards, and small-scale development, the district has retained its own character between big city and suburban idyll. Sillenbuch consists of three sub-districts: Sillenbuch itself, Heumaden, and Riedenberg. The Sillenbucher Meile along Kirchheimer Straße forms the heart of business life.

St. Martin Tradition — Customs in November

St. Martin's Day (November 11) commemorates Saint Martin of Tours, who, according to legend, shared his cloak with a freezing beggar. In Germany, the day is celebrated with lantern parades, St. Martin's geese, and Martinimärkte — especially in predominantly Catholic regions, but increasingly also celebrated ecumenically and secularly. The Sillenbuch Martinimarkt combines this tradition with modern district life.

District Culture as Identity

The Aktionsgemeinschaft Sillenbucher Meile organizes several events throughout the year, of which the Martinimarkt is one of the largest. The aim is to strengthen the local business community and profile Sillenbuch as a vibrant Stuttgart district with its own identity — away from the central downtown area around Königstraße.
