Tradition of the Maikerwe

The Maikerwe is a Palatinate folk festival tradition with a long history. May is considered the month of blooming, joie de vivre, and communal festivals. In many places in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Maikerwe is held as a church fair (Kirchweih) funfair, supplemented by musical programs, beer tents, and parades. In Rockenhausen, the Maikerwe has been an integral part of the event calendar for decades.

Rides and Stalls

The Rockenhausen fairgrounds offer space for classic fair attractions: Ferris wheel or observation ride, dodgems, carousels for children, wave flyers or roller coaster, game stalls with shooting galleries, throwing games, prize wheels, and lottery stands. Families with children will find attractions just as much as young people and adults looking for adrenaline.

Classic Market Treats

No fair visit without the typical market treats: roasted almonds, cotton candy, crêpes, gingerbread hearts, spiced bread, bratwurst, fries, and doughnuts (Schmalzkuchen). For adults, there are beer, wine, punch, and cocktail stands. The gastronomic offerings are classic and make up the charm of a Palatinate fair.

Family Weekend

The Maikerwe is a classic family weekend. Parents and children spend several hours on the fairgrounds, grandparents come for meetings and conversations, and young people meet in the evenings. In combination with the parallel Health Fair on Sunday, the weekend becomes a multi-generational event with diverse attractions.
