Weekend with gladiator demonstrations in the Roman Amphitheatre Trier — UNESCO World Heritage
The Roman Amphitheatre of Trier was built at the end of the 2nd century and was the scene of gladiator fights, animal hunts, and public spectacles. With its arena, which is largely preserved to this day, the remains of the stands, and the underground animal pens, it is one of the best-preserved amphitheatres in Germany and part of the UNESCO World Heritage of Trier.
The Trier Gladiatorial School e.V. is an association that has dedicated itself for years to the archaeologically sound reconstruction of ancient gladiator fights and the associated equipment. During the weekend, it presents a continuous program of combat demonstrations of various gladiator types (Retiarius, Murmillo, Thraex, among others), explanations of weaponry, demonstrations of training, and insights into the social world of ancient gladiators. The demonstrations take place in the arena, and the spectator stands are freely accessible.
In 2026, the weekend coincides with Trier's 40th World Heritage Anniversary and is part of the opening of the anniversary summer by BrückenGlück on June 6th/7th.
