Five summer evenings dedicated to German wine culture at the crab cutter harbour
The Greetsiel Wine Festival was first held in 2023, immediately filling a gap in the Krummhörn's event calendar. While the mid-summer beer festival and other regional events focus primarily on maritime cuisine and Pilsner, the wine festival offers a more elegant, Mediterranean-inspired alternative – without abandoning East Frisian down-to-earthness. Now in its fourth edition, the format has become established, attracting guests from all over East Friesland, as well as holidaymakers from Münsterland, Holland, and the Ruhr area.
The focus is on vintners from German wine-growing regions. Classic white wines such as Riesling, Silvaner, Grauburgunder, and Weißburgunder are represented, while red wines are dominated by Spätburgunder, Dornfelder, and Lemberger. Sparkling wine (Sekt) and non-alcoholic wine spritzers are also available. The participating wineries may change from year to year, but a core group of regular vintners ensures continuity.
Greetsiel's participating restaurateurs serve suitable dishes to accompany the wine: Flammkuchen (Tarte Flambée) from a wood-fired oven, cheese platters, antipasti, bruschetta, smoked fish from local smokehouses, and, of course, the obligatory shrimp rolls (Krabbenbrötchen). Several stalls offer classic wine festival fare like Zwiebelkuchen (onion cake) and Federweißer (young wine), as soon as the season allows.
A small stage at the harbour basin features changing live music on all festival days. The programme ranges from acoustic singer-songwriter sets and jazz trios to maritime folklore. The musical selection remains deliberately understated, fitting the relaxed atmosphere of the festival – the Greetsiel Wine Festival prioritises enjoyment and refined conviviality over a party atmosphere.
The fourth edition of the Greetsiel Wine Festival builds on the success of previous years and slightly expands the format: in 2026, five days instead of four are planned for the first time, to also accommodate the Sunday Frühschoppen audience. The selection of participating vintners will be curated by the organiser with a focus on regional diversity.
The detailed 2026 programme (vintners, band names, times) will be published by the organiser in the summer of 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Greetsiel Harbour, Sielstraße (26736 Krummhörn).
Wednesday to Sunday, from afternoon until midnight each day. Sunday Frühschoppen starts at 11 am. Exact times will be published on the website of the Tourismus GmbH shortly before the festival.
Free entry to the festival grounds. Tasting packages and reusable wine glasses are available at the respective vintner stands.
By car via L2/L3 from Emden (13 km). Parking is subject to a fee. Bus route 411 from Emden. Due to the alcohol served, we recommend travelling by bus or bicycle, or staying overnight locally.
Greetsiel offers numerous hotels, guesthouses, and holiday apartments. Early booking is recommended, as the weekend of the wine festival is in high demand.
