For decades, the Maikerwe has been the first major Volksfest event of the year in the Westpfalz. Weeks before the opening, setup begins on the Kaiserslautern exhibition grounds, one of the largest centrally located festival sites in Germany. When the keg tapping ceremony takes place on May 29, 2026, at 5 PM, all carousels, roller coasters, shooting galleries, candy stalls, and beer tents will be ready, and the area will transform into its own small universe, keeping the Westpfalz vibrant for eleven days.
Rides for All Generations
The spectrum ranges from classic children's carousels and Ferris wheels to the large, modern adrenaline machines that the showman industry brings to the festival grounds each year. Among showmen, the Maikerwe is considered an important date on the Southern Germany tour calendar, thus regularly offering high-quality and new rides. Families will find a large children's area, teenagers the fast-paced rides, and older visitors the calmer game stalls and beer tents.
Family Day and Fireworks
Wednesday, June 3, is the official Family Day: rides and food will be offered at reduced prices, making the Maikerwe even more attractive for families from the entire catchment area. The grand finale on Monday, June 8, is the spectacular closing fireworks display, which will illuminate the evening sky over Kaiserslautern from the exhibition grounds and attract thousands of visitors.
Beer Tents and Gastronomy
In addition to the rides, several beer tents and refreshment stands characterize the image of the Kerwe: Palatinate specialties from Saumagen to Leberknödel, classic Volksfest favorites like doughnuts, candied almonds, fries, and potato pancakes, along with Palatinate wine and beer from regional breweries. Especially on weekends, it gets late in the beer tents – live music, Schlager, and party bands define the sound of the Lautrer Kerwe.

Volksfest-Tradition über elf Tage : Die Lautrer Kerwe bleibt das Pfingstvolksfest der Westpfalz, mit klassischem Volksfestmix aus rasanten Fahrgeschäften, Familienangeboten und abendlichen Festzelt-Stimmungen. Location
Messeplatz Kaiserslautern, Pariser Straße, 67655 Kaiserslautern. Large, centrally located festival grounds in the western part of the city.
Opening Hours
Mon to Thu usually from 2 PM, Fri and Sat from 1 PM, Sun and public holidays from 12 PM. Closing usually between 11 PM and midnight, later on weekends. Opening on May 29, 2026, at 5 PM.
Admission
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Rides and food are subject to charge. Family Day on June 3, 2026, with reduced rates.
Getting There
Public transport: Bus to the exhibition grounds or a walk from the main train station (approx. 20 minutes). By car via the A6 and A63 motorways; expect parking pressure during the Kerwe, parking available on the exhibition grounds themselves.
