The Maibaumfest is the traditional season opening of the Baltic-Freizeit camping and holiday park in Rostock-Markgrafenheide. Located directly behind the beach dunes of the Rostocker Heide, the park invites campers, holiday guests, and locals to celebrate May together every year on May 1st.
Program
Classic May traditions meet a modern beach camping format: on May 1st, the Maypole is erected with music and dance, and on May 2nd, an afternoon follows with a children's disco, live music, dancing for adults, and happy hour at the cocktail bar. The meeting point is the area in front of the Tenne restaurant on the holiday park grounds.
Local Context
Markgrafenheide belongs to the Hanseatic city of Rostock and is the starting point for long beach walks to the Hütelmoor peninsula and the Schmidt-Stein. The Baltic Freizeit Park operates the grounds with year-round holiday offerings — the Maibaumfest is one of the first major open-air events of the season on the Rostock coast.
Maibaumfest Markgrafenheide — edition 2026
On Friday, May 1st, 2026, the festival begins at 5:00 PM with the traditional raising of the Maypole in front of the barn. Followed by music and dance in the Maypole circle. On Saturday, May 2nd, the festival continues from 3:00 PM: children's disco until 4:30 PM, then dance music for adults, happy hour at the cocktail bar from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Event motto: 'The May has come...' — classic season opening of the Markgrafenheide beach resort.

Getting there
By car via the Warnow tunnel (A19) towards Hohe Düne / Markgrafenheide. The Hohe Düne–Markgrafenheide summer ferry is not required for the festival; arrive directly at the camping and holiday park.
