Over 100 acts on five stages in the historic Magniviertel – Braunschweig's largest neighbourhood festival with over 50 years of tradition
In the heart of Braunschweig lies the historic Magniviertel with its medieval alleys, half-timbered houses, and the late Romanesque Magnikirche. Once a year, this unusually well-preserved urban quarter transforms into an open stage landscape: at the Magnifest, more than 100 acts perform on five stages, streets, and squares.
The Magnifest has been celebrated for more than fifty years, making it one of the oldest neighbourhood festivals in Northern Germany. It originated from an initiative by the local residents and remains self-governed to this day. Admission is free, and the festival is financed through stall fees, donations, and volunteer work.
Around 100,000 people flock to the quarter over the three days each year. They enjoy live concerts, theatre performances, dance shows, readings, and hands-on activities for children. Numerous stalls offer food from around the world, drinks, handicrafts, and information from local initiatives.
The musical spectrum ranges from rock, indie, and pop to jazz, folk, blues, classical, hip-hop, soul, and electronic music. The program consciously focuses on regional bands and newcomers while also providing a stage for national acts.
Beyond the five stages, the Magnifest is characterised by its dense supporting program: a family and children's area, walk-acts, city quarter tours, discussion rounds, exhibitions in the quarter's galleries and shops, and numerous encounters with clubs and initiatives.
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, September 4th, to Sunday, September 6th, 2026. Five stages in the Magniviertel around the Magnikirche will be used. The program is designed for around 100 acts, and admission is free.
As in previous years, around 100,000 visitors are expected in the quarter over the three days, many of them regulars from Braunschweig and the surrounding region.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organiser in late summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Magniviertel with Magnikirchplatz and surrounding streets, 38100 Braunschweig.
By tram / bus to "Rathaus", "Magnitor", or "Augusttor". Approx. 15–20 minutes walk from the main train station. Multi-storey car parks at Magnitor and Wallstraße. Public transport and cycling strongly recommended.
Free admission to all stages and the entire festival grounds. Food and drinks available at the stalls.
Dedicated children's and family activities, bouncy castles, hands-on programs. Family-friendly festival.
