About Lustgartenfest
Lustgartenfest — edition 2026
2026 Edition — Suburban District Festival
The Lustgartenfest 2026 will follow the proven two-day format. The district clubs — music association, singing association, sports clubs, church groups — are organizing the festival together. The exact date will be announced in Spring 2026; based on experience, the festival typically takes place in mid-July.
The established program is expected: Saturday 6 PM opening with the mayor and barrel tapping, followed by live music until late into the evening. Sunday with a program by singing, dancing, and sports groups, a children's program with a bouncy castle and face painting, plus more live music. Catering is provided by the clubs themselves — each club with its own stall and culinary profile.

Lustgartenfest Hohenwettersbach — Suburban Idyll in Karlsruhe
When the Lustgarten in Karlsruhe's suburban district of Hohenwettersbach is decorated with beer benches, a small stage, and club stalls in July, the traditional Lustgartenfest is back. The exact date for 2026 will be announced in Spring 2026 by the organizing club collective. The festival is organized by an association of local clubs — music association, singing association, sports clubs, church groups — who jointly put on a real community festival. In the spacious Lustgarten in the middle of Hohenwettersbach, the atmosphere is manageable and cozy — a suburban district festival with a village character in the middle of the big city of Karlsruhe.
Saturday — Opening with Mayor and Barrel Tapping
The Saturday evening marks the start: At 6 PM, the Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe or a district representative opens the festival with a welcome speech. This is followed by the traditional Fassanstich (barrel tapping) — the Swabian-Baden variant with the cry "O'zapft is!" and the first beer of the festival. Afterward, the live music begins: typically music associations, cover bands from the region, or Schlager programs. The festival runs late into the evening on Saturday.
Sunday — Program by Groups and Family Day
Sunday is family day with an extensive program by Hohenwettersbach's singing, dancing, and sports groups. The singing clubs present songs from their traditional and modern repertoire, the dance groups perform Swabian-Baden folk dances and show choreographies, and the sports clubs offer participatory programs and demonstrations. Additionally, there is a children's program with a bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities, and a raffle. Another round of live music concludes the day.
Club Catering and Atmosphere
The clubs themselves are responsible for the catering. Each club has its own stall with its own culinary profile — bratwurst, fries, Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, vegetarian options, salads. The drink selection is classic: Swabian-Baden beer, regional wine, apple juice spritzer, lemonade. The atmosphere is one of convivial suburban character — you sit among residents of the district, hear the district's hits over the loudspeakers, and chat with the music association about local politics. A mood you'll never find at a big inner-city festival.
Hohenwettersbach — Karlsruhe's Suburban District
The district of Hohenwettersbach, with around 4,500 inhabitants, belongs to Karlsruhe but is located as a suburban district on a hill above the Rhine valley — about 300 meters above the city center. The location gives the place a special character: a village ambiance with a historic church, half-timbered houses, and spacious gardens, but at the same time, it has Karlsruhe's district infrastructure. From the Lustgarten, you have a wide view over the Rhine valley — with clear visibility, all the way to the Vosges mountains. Karlsruhe itself, the "Fächerstadt" (Fan City) with its distinctive baroque axes and the famous palace, lies below in the Rhine valley. Hohenwettersbach is accessible by bus line 24 or by car in 20-25 minutes.
