#unverhandelbar — Christopher Street Day in the Hanseatic City
Lübeck, with almost 220,000 inhabitants, is the second-largest city in Schleswig-Holstein and a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its medieval old town. The queer community of the Hanseatic city has been celebrating its CSD for years, organized by Lübecker CSD e.V., a non-profit association dedicated year-round to the visibility and acceptance of queer lifestyles.
Unlike many other CSDs, Lübeck Pride is not a one-day event, but a whole week of programming. It typically begins a week before the main weekend with the festive hoisting of the rainbow flags at the town hall and the UKSH (University Hospital). This is followed by discussion rounds, film nights, workshops, and networking meetings — for example, for bi- and pansexual people, for polyamorous communities, for young queer people.
The highlight is the weekend with the Warm-Up Disco on Friday and the Street Festival and the Political Demonstration on Saturday. Several thousand people march through Lübeck's city center — past the Holstentor, through Breite Straße, along the brick churches, with stages on the market square and discussion stations along the route.
What characterizes Lübeck CSD is its political emphasis. With the slogan «#unverhandelbar», the association makes it clear: Queer rights are not negotiable. Activists, politicians, and representatives of local initiatives speak on the stage at the market square. Live music, dance, and celebrations follow — but always embedded in a fundamental political stance.
Lübeck Pride 2026 runs as a full week of events starting August 10.
The exact route of the demonstration through Lübeck's old town and the stage program on the market square will be published by Lübecker CSD e.V. in the weeks before the event. Experience shows that the route leads from the market square via Breite Straße to the Holstentor and back, with stops at symbolic locations (e.g., St. Petri Church).
On the stage at the market square on Saturday, live bands, drag performers, and spoken-word artists will perform, with activists, local politicians, and representatives of queer initiatives speaking in between. The complete stage program will be announced by the CSD board in July.
