One of the largest wine festivals on the Romantic Rhine: the Linz market square as a large wine village from September 11 to 14, 2026
The market square of Linz am Rhein is one of the most beautiful historic squares on the Middle Rhine. With the town hall, the castle gate, and the colorful half-timbered houses that frame this square, it offers the ideal backdrop for one of the most famous wine festivals on the Romantic Rhine. For four days, the square becomes a large, open wine village — with wine stands, high tables, small stages, and gastronomic offerings.
Regional vintners from the Middle Rhine region, the Palatinate, Rheinhessen, the Mosel, and occasionally from international wine-growing regions present their wines at the stands. Focus: Riesling in its various styles (dry, off-dry, noble sweet), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Rosé, Sekt, and Riesling Sekt. Tasting prices are moderate; many visitors use the festival to get to know new vintners.
Gastronomically, Flammkuchen dominates — Palatinate and Alsace traditions meet on the Rhine — complemented by Westerwald and Palatinate specialties (Saumagen, Bratwurst, Reibekuchen), vegetarian options, crêpes, and desserts. Several stages offer live music from pop, rock, Schlager, and brass bands, plus a dance floor that particularly attracts younger visitors on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The Linz Wine Festival traditionally takes place on the second weekend in September — from September 11 to 14 in 2026. This date coincides with the beginning of the grape harvest in the Middle Rhine region, thus also bringing the first new vintage wines (Federweißer, young Rieslings) to the market. The long opening hours — Friday and Saturday until 2 AM — also make the festival attractive to a younger night crowd.
The 2026 edition continues the popular summer format. Exact stand and stage programs will be published by the city of Linz in summer 2026.
