Traditional Lingenfelder Kerwe as a summer street festival
The Lingenfelder Kerwe follows a format typical of the Palatinate: instead of concentrating on a festival site, the event spreads across the central streets of the village centre. Several stands and stages are set up in different street sections, and the clubs operate their refreshment stations at various locations. This structure creates a special festival atmosphere, as visitors wander through the village and experience different moods in various places.
The Kerwerede (Kerwe speech) by the Kerweparrer (Kerwe pastor), who comments on the past year's events in rhyme, is part of the programme, as is the ceremonial tapping of the first barrel (Fassanstich), the Kerwe Sunday morning pint (Kerwefrühschoppen), and the traditional Kerwe dance.
The Lingenfeld clubs – the sports club, fire brigade, music club, carnival society, church community, and youth clubs – jointly run the festival catering. Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Flammkuchen (a type of flatbread), Sauerkraut (sour cabbage), fries, and desserts from the club kitchens complement the drinks of Palatinate wine, beer, and Schorle (wine mixed with sparkling water).
Lingenfeld is located between Speyer and Germersheim in southern Vorderpfalz and is the seat of the administrative district of the same name. The Lingenfelder Kerwe attracts visitors from the surrounding municipalities of Lustadt, Hochstadt, Schwegenheim, Westheim, Weingarten, and Zeiskam and is a central meeting point in the region's festival calendar.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the local municipality of Lingenfeld in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: opening on Friday evening with the ceremonial tapping of the first barrel, family programme on Saturday, morning pint on Sunday, and the Kerwe winding down.
