Christmas market at the harbour with Alpine panorama on Lindau Island
The Lindau Christmas Market at the Harbour is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric Christmas markets in all of Southern Germany. It takes place directly at the historic harbour of Lindau Island – one of the most spectacular settings a Christmas market in Germany can offer. The festively illuminated harbour promenade, the vast view across Lake Constance, and the snow-capped Alpine panorama in the background merge into an image that enchants visitors year after year.
The motto 'Quality over Quantity' applies to the over 90 lovingly decorated market stalls: fair-trade goods and regional products make gift shopping a sustainable joy. Craftsmanship, culinary specialities, and regional produce are the focus – a conscious counterpoint to mass-tourism Christmas bustle.
Especially for the younger visitors, a fairy-tale forest with mythical figures and real animals is set up along the shore promenade, along with storytelling sessions. A nostalgic carousel and a nativity scene complete the offerings. Various artists perform on the stage at the harbour on all Advent weekends, creating a festive and cheerful atmosphere with music and dance.
The pre-Christmas programme ranges from Advent city tours and musical performances at the harbour to special boat trips. Those arriving by ship reach the market directly – a special experience. The hourly regional train brings guests to the island train station, making the journey itself a festive prelude.
The Christmas Market at the Harbour is firmly anchored in the Bavarian Lake Constance town of Lindau, the southwesternmost tip of the Free State of Bavaria in the Lindau district. Located in the three-country corner between Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Lindau Island is one of the most famous sights on the entire Lake Constance – and a magical attraction for visitors from the entire Lake Constance region during Advent.
The 2026 edition of the Lindau Christmas Market at the Harbour takes place from 26 November to 20 December – open Thursday to Sunday, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The over 90 stalls on the festively illuminated harbour promenade focus on regional products, craftsmanship, and fair-trade goods.
The specially built fairy-tale forest with real animals, storytelling sessions, a nostalgic carousel, and a nativity scene delight families.
