70th edition of the legendary summer festival on the Weser with multimedia show and live program
Since 1955, Bodenwerder, the birthplace of the famous Baron Munchausen, has transformed year after year into a festively illuminated stage on the Weser. The Lichterfest is one of the defining summer highlights of the Weserbergland and celebrates a remarkable anniversary in 2026 with its 70th edition.
On Friday, August 7th, 2026, the festival starts at 6:00 PM with an atmospheric party evening. DJs from the House, Techno, and EDM genres will play along the Weser promenade, creating an electrifying atmosphere against the idyllic river backdrop. The party evening is primarily aimed at a younger audience and has become a firm fixture in the regional event calendar.
Saturday, August 8th, 2026, opens at 2:00 PM with an extensive family program. A 2,500 square meter kids' area offers play activities, hands-on workshops, and the surprise highlight for children, Volker Rosin. On the main stage, the live band ¡TILT! and DJs Timweyy and Alpha Music will alternate, keeping the energy high throughout the day.
The undisputed highlight is the approximately 30-minute multimedia show around 10:30 PM, which combines fireworks, flame effects, laser technology, and choreographed light installations into a single performance. Reflected on the Weser, it creates a spectacle of images and sound that continues the festival's 70-year tradition in a contemporary way.
The Weser promenade, the Münchhausen monument, and the historic town center form the picturesque stage for the Lichterfest. Children up to ten years old have free admission – a gesture that anchors the festival as a multigenerational experience.
The 70th edition anniversary gives the 2026 Lichterfest special significance. Organizers and the town of Bodenwerder have carefully curated the program: the live band ¡TILT!, DJs Timweyy and Alpha Music, and children's star Volker Rosin are announced as confirmed acts. The multimedia show on the Weser follows the proven staging of recent years with fireworks, flame effects, laser technology, and choreographed light installations.
