Two Weeks of Circus in the Summer Holidays
The Leverkusen Children's Holiday Circus is a two-week holiday program offered by the association familienarena e.V., where children between 7 and 13 years old can dive into the world of the circus. The 2026 edition runs from Monday, July 20 to Saturday, August 1, 2026: two consecutive weeks, each with a performance on Saturday. The venue is the AWO Family Seminar at Berliner Platz 3 in the Opladen district of Leverkusen.
Acrobatics, Magic, Clowning, and Balancing
Every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., each group undergoes circus training under the guidance of experienced artists. The disciplines: acrobatics (pyramids, floor and partner acrobatics), magic (tricks for beginners), clowning (role-playing and movement games), and balancing (unicycle, ball, tightrope). Over the days, each child develops their own act, which finds its place in the grand show at the end of the week.
Schedule of a Week
Monday to Friday, children meet between 8 and 9 a.m. at the AWO Family Seminar, training takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and children are picked up between 3 and 4 p.m. A hot lunch is included daily. On Saturday, the grand performance takes place each week: 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. — families, friends, and siblings see what the young artists have developed together in one week.
Two Separate Sessions
Both weeks are independent: Week 1 runs from July 20 to 25 (performances on July 25), Week 2 from July 27 to August 1 (performances on August 1). Children can book either one week or both weeks — the second week is not content-wise a continuation of the first but offers an independent circus program again.
Opladen — Family District in Northern Leverkusen
Opladen is one of Leverkusen's three main districts (alongside Wiesdorf and Schlebusch). The AWO Family Seminar at Berliner Platz is centrally located in the district, easily accessible by bus and S-Bahn (S6 Cologne–Düsseldorf, Leverkusen-Opladen station). Leverkusen, an independent city in the administrative district of Cologne with around 165,000 inhabitants, is primarily known as the headquarters of Bayer and home of Bayer 04 — apart from these major players, a volunteer scene has developed around familienarena, offering low-threshold cultural activities for children and young people.
