About Culture and Pub Night Lauenburg

The Lauenburg Culture and Pub Night is one of the most concentrated cultural nights in Schleswig-Holstein: With a single ticket, over twenty venues in the historic Old Town of Lauenburg/Elbe open their doors from 4 PM to 2 AM — pubs, cafés, restaurants, galleries, museums, churches. The program ranges from live concerts (rock, folk, jazz, swing, indie-pop) to musical readings and exhibitions, and the legendary techno-mass in the St. Mary Magdalene Church. The organizer, Lauenburg Marketing, curates the program with the aim of uniting classic cultural formats (concert, reading, exhibition) and unconventional formats (speed painting, techno-mass, aftershow party) on the same night. The 2026 edition is the 11th — it regularly sells out.

One Night, One Ticket, An Entire Old Town

The concept of the Lauenburg Culture and Pub Night is simple and brilliant: with a single ticket, all participating venues in the Old Town open their doors — no additional admission, no queuing at individual ticket counters, free movement between stages. The night begins at 4 PM with the official opening and ends at 2 AM with the aftershow parties.

Over 20 Venues, Four Program Strands

The organizers divide the program into four strands:

  • Concerts in pubs, cafés, restaurants — rock, folk, jazz, swing, indie-pop, Elvis tribute
  • Readings, lectures, exhibitions, museum tours — the cultural part during the day and early evening
  • Special Formats — speed painting, improvisation theater, art installations
  • Late Night Program — techno-mass and aftershow parties from 10 PM onwards

Lauenburg/Elbe — Town of Shipping in the Duchy

Lauenburg/Elbe is a small town with around 11,500 inhabitants in the Duchy of Lauenburg district, directly on the Elbe river opposite Lower Saxony. The historic Old Town stretches along the Elbe riverbank — half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, the harbor with the Maria Elisabeth Stiftshaus, the St. Mary Magdalene Church, the Schiffergesellschaft (Shipowners' Guild). For centuries, Lauenburg was an important inland port — the Lauenburg shipping culture is UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Culture and Pub Night transforms this dense historical substance into a walkable stage.

Techno-Mass in St. Mary Magdalene Church

One of the most iconic program points is the techno-mass in St. Mary Magdalene Church — from 10 PM to 2 AM, it combines a DJ set, light installation, and liturgical elements in the medieval church. The format is a nationally recognized example of renewing church spaces through pop and club culture, and has been a crowd-puller in Lauenburg for years.

Culture and Pub Night Lauenburg — edition 2026

The 11th Lauenburg Culture and Pub Night on March 21, 2026, was sold out weeks in advance. With the official opening at 6:30 PM in the Osterwaldhalle (Mayor Thorben Brackmann and speed painter Jan Balyon), the night kicked off across more than 20 venues in the Old Town. The music program ranged from the Elvis tribute Stefan Schael to jazz with Akio Le & Band ("My Nat King Cole Story"), the Hamburg indie-pop band Alma Cojo, the Folk Rovers (Irish Night), and the rock-comedy band GRINCH!, and the swing sound of Herr Könnig. The late-night program featured the techno-mass in St. Mary Magdalene Church (10:00 PM–2:00 AM) and the aftershow party with DJ Kai-Uwe Fischer from 11:00 PM.

11th Edition — Sold Out

The 11th edition on March 21, 2026, was again completely sold out weeks before the date — a constant feature of the Lauenburg Culture and Pub Night for years. From 4 PM, the streets and squares of the Old Town filled up, and from 6:30 PM, the official stage program began.

Opening in the Osterwaldhalle

Mayor Thorben Brackmann opened the night at 6:30 PM in the Osterwaldhalle. The opening was accompanied by a speed painting performance by Lauenburg artist Jan Balyon, who created a large-format picture live for the culture night.

Music in Twenty Venues

The music program was spread across the Old Town: Stefan Schael as an Elvis Presley tribute with musical readings; Akio Le & Band with the jazz program "My Nat King Cole Story"; the Hamburg indie-pop formation Alma Cojo; the rock-comedy band GRINCH!; the Folk Rovers in the Irish Night; and Herr Könnig with swing sound from the 1920s–40s.

Techno-Mass and Aftershow

The late-night program had two focal points: the techno-mass in St. Mary Magdalene Church from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM and the aftershow party with DJ Kai-Uwe Fischer from 11:00 PM. Both formats are part of the core identity of the Lauenburg Culture Night.
