Traditional marksmen's festival on the first weekend of August 2026
The Schützenverein Iburg von 1869 looks back on over 150 years of marksmen's tradition. The Schützenfest Bad Iburg is its highlight of the club year — and at the same time one of the most visited folk festivals in the Kneipp town below the baroque castle.
As tradition dictates, the Schützenfest takes place on the first weekend of August 2026 on the Schützenplatz (marksmen's grounds). For several days, fanfares and marching bands parade through the streets decorated with green and white flags. The entire townscape is bathed in the club's colours.
The highlight is the bird shooting with the competition for the title of king. In the 2025 edition, André Wichmann was proclaimed Schützenkönig (marksmen's king) after 463 shots — a clear indication of the sporting intensity of the competition. This is followed by the ceremonial proclamation of the new royal couple and the King's dinner in the festival tent.
The parade is the social highlight: marksmen, royal couples, ladies-in-waiting, and friendly clubs march through Bad Iburg with music. Afterwards, members and guests meet in the festival tent for dance evenings with live bands, for the traditional Sunday morning pint (Frühschoppen), and for Family Day with children's entertainment.
The Schützenfest is an integral part of the Bad Iburg event calendar and a meeting place for generations. Anyone visiting the Kneipp-Erlebnispark or staying for a summer retreat in the spa town should not miss this date.
