Traditional district festival in intercultural Hemshof with live bands, stage program, and international cuisine
Hemshof is Ludwigshafen's most diverse district. In the narrow streets of the northern inner city, people from over 100 nations live side-by-side – with Turkish grocery stores, Southeast European cafes, Kurdish bakeries, German corner pubs, and clubhouses from all over the world. This diversity is the real program of the Hemshoffest, organized by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Nördliche Innenstadt together with LUKOM and a large number of volunteers on the first weekend of June.
The focal point of the festival is Goerdelerplatz, which becomes the lively open-air living room of the neighborhood for two days. The main stage features a rotation of live bands, cover bands, and solo artists; the spectrum ranges from rock and pop to reggae and Latin to oriental sounds. Clubs, schools, and initiatives from the district present themselves at stands, and the family program includes hands-on activities, craft workshops, and face painting.
The gastronomic offer is one of the Hemshoffest's unique selling points: Turkish Lahmacun, Kurdish kebab specialties, Italian pizza, Indian curries, Vietnamese spring rolls, Lebanese mezze, Palatinate Saumagen, and Bratwurst – the culinary range reflects the diversity of the district. Beer from Palatinate breweries, Palatinate wines, and non-alcoholic specialties accompany the stage program into the evening hours.
Beyond the purely festive aspects, the Hemshoffest has fulfilled an important integration policy function for decades: it creates a low-threshold meeting space for residents from all over the world, promotes the engagement of clubs and initiatives, and makes visible the cultural strengths of a district often unfairly stigmatized. Thus, the Hemshoffest is also a political statement for an open, diverse Ludwigshafen.
The focus will once again be on the main stage at Goerdelerplatz with performances by regional bands and solo artists. Clubs and initiatives from Hemshof will present themselves at stands, and culinary offerings from more than a dozen countries will transform the square into an international street food meeting point. The complete lineup will be published by the organizer in spring 2026.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
