Open-air concert series in the historic Hinter Aegidien museum garden
The Museum Hinter Aegidien is part of the Three State Museums of Braunschweig and houses collections on the history and culture of the region in the historic rooms of the former Aegidien Monastery. The museum's garden is a quiet green island in the middle of the city center and offers a unique setting for open-air concerts. The monastery walls act as a natural acoustic barrier, lending the concerts a special richness of sound.
Over more than three months, 'Landesmuseum Live' presents weekly concerts of various genres. The spectrum ranges from classical chamber music with quartets and soloists to jazz with small combos, folk and singer-songwriters, to world music and experimental acoustic programs. The series thus appeals to a musically diverse audience and uses the intimate atmosphere of the garden for concerts that would not fully unfold their effect in the city's large halls.
Tickets for individual concerts are available exclusively at the Hinter Aegidien museum ticket office, which is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no online advance sale — a deliberate decision to strengthen the connection with the museum and also to integrate spontaneous visitors. In very good weather and for popular concerts, it is advisable to come early.
'Landesmuseum Live' is part of the Braunschweig Open-Air Summer, an initiative by the city to liven up the city center with open-air cultural offerings. Those in the 'Lion City' during the summer will find a perfect complement here to larger concert series such as the Volksbank BRAWO Bühne or the Applaus Garten — smaller, more intimate, more focused, but no less experiential.
The 2026 season continues the established series structure and utilizes the acoustically outstanding location in the former Aegidien Monastery for intimate concerts.
