Guided hiking week through the Dahner Felsenland with half-day and full-day tours
The Dahner Felsenland Hiking Week is one of the oldest organized hiking weeks in Germany. Since its first edition in 1991, it has been a firm fixture in the tourist summer calendar in the southern Palatinate Forest and has brought thousands of hikers from across the German-speaking world to Dahn over the years. It is organized by the Pfälzerwald-Verein Dahn, one of the most active local groups of the hiking association, which provides the weekly tours with a team of volunteer guides.
The concept of the hiking week offers one tour per day, sometimes even two – a more ambitious full-day tour and, in parallel, a more relaxed half-day option. This way, every hiker can find a suitable level. The full-day tours cover distances of 15 to 25 kilometers with considerable elevation gain, while the half-day tours are around 8 to 12 kilometers. Each tour is led by an experienced guide who not only knows the way but can also provide information on the geology, history, and flora of the Palatinate Forest.
The Dahner Felsenland is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is considered the most scenically spectacular part of the Palatinate Forest. Mighty Bunter Sandstone rocks rise from the mixed forests, castle ruins crown the most striking peaks (Burg Alt-Dahn, Berwartstein, Drachenfels), and the Teufelstisch is one of Germany's most famous sandstone formations. The hiking week takes participants to all the important sights in the region, often also to lesser-known paths known only to insiders.
A Palatinate hike without a stop for refreshments is unthinkable, and the Felsenland Hiking Week cherishes this tradition. Each tour leads to at least one mountain hut – PWV huts, private mountain lodges, or roadside restaurants – where breaks are taken with local specialties like Saumagen, Bratwurst, Leberknödel, and a cool Palatinate wine or beer. The social aspect is not an add-on, but part of the program.
Those traveling from further afield can book the hiking week as a package tour: accommodation, the hiking week, and sometimes half-board are offered by the Tourist-Info Dahner Felsenland in cooperation with local hotels and guesthouses. Detailed information on the program and packages will be published in spring 2026.

The detailed daily program with tour descriptions will be published by the organizer in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: kick-off on Sunday, five hiking days from Monday to Friday, and closing on Saturday.
