27th Arts and Crafts Market at the last thatched single-roof farm of the Hotzenwald
The Kunststückchenmarkt takes place annually on the grounds of the Klausenhof Open-Air Museum in the municipality of Herrischried (Waldshut district, state of Baden-Württemberg). The Klausenhof itself is a regional specialty: it is considered the last thatched single-roof farm of the Hotzenwald and has been restored according to original plans. Single-roof farms were typical farmhouses of the region, where the living quarters, stable, and barn were housed under one roof – a construction style that is authentically preserved only here.
In 2026, the 27th edition of the Kunststückchenmarkt will be held – a tradition since 1999. The date is two weeks after Pentecost, on June 6 and 7, 2026. The market is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Over the years, the market has become a firm fixture in the southern German arts and crafts calendar – for both exhibitors and discerning visitors.
The market differs from many other arts and crafts markets through a strict selection criterion: All exhibited works must be designed and manufactured by the exhibitor themselves. Industrial goods, imported products, and mass production are excluded. Disciplines represented include:
What makes the market special are the live demonstrations in the historic workshops of the Klausenhof:
Visitors can watch the craftspeople at work, ask questions, and sometimes even participate.
During the market, the historic bakehouse is in operation – fresh wood-fired bread, braided challah, and sweet specialties come from the stone oven. Additional food stalls offer regional specialties from the Hotzenwald: sausages, cheese, snack platters, coffee, and cake.
The Hotzenwald is a distinct natural landscape in the south of the Black Forest, between the Wehratal valley and the High Rhine. It is characterized by an open, light-filled low mountain range landscape with scattered orchards, wide summer meadows, and individual farms. Herrischried is located in the center of this landscape at an altitude of around 870 meters. Visitors can complement their market visit with hikes, a trip to the nearby Wehratal dam, or a detour to the Hotzenwald ski area in winter.
On the weekend of June 6 and 7, 2026, the Klausenhof Open-Air Museum in Herrischried opens its gates for the 27th edition of the Kunststückchenmarkt. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, artists and craftspeople from near and far will present their self-designed and manufactured works on the grounds of the last thatched single-roof farm of the Hotzenwald. Goldsmithing, ceramics, glass art, sculptures, textiles, and woodworking will be featured. Live demonstrations will take place in the historic workshops of the Klausenhof – glassblowing in the glass workshop, metalworking in the forge, turning on the lathe, and jewelry making in the goldsmith's workshop. The open bakehouse will be filled with the aroma of fresh wood-fired bread, and food stalls will offer regional specialties from the Hotzenwald.
