Open Studios on Pentecost Weekend on North Rügen
Kunst:Offen in Vorpommern is one of the most traditional open studio initiatives in Germany. On Pentecost, hundreds of artists in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern open their workshops and show what they are working on — from the first sketch to the finished piece. Wittow, the northern peninsula of Rügen, is part of this network and has been an attractive stop for years.
On Wittow, several studios in Breege, Juliusruh, and Putgarten regularly participate. These include the Kunstraum Wasserwerk, the Atelier Arkona, and Kunst im Küsterhus — the exact list changes from year to year and is published before Pentecost on the website of the Tourism Association Vorpommern e.V. and on flyers from tourist information centers. The participating studios can be found on the website via a map.
Wittow belongs to the municipality of Breege or Putgarten in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). The sparse, wide landscape with its steep coast, Cape Arkona, Bodden shores, and small fishing villages like Vitt has attracted artists for decades, who operate workshops in old farmhouses and former utility buildings. Kunst:Offen is the opportunity to visit these quiet workspaces directly once a year.
On Pentecost 2026, Wittow is once again participating in the statewide Kunst:Offen initiative. The participating studios — including regularly Kunstraum Wasserwerk, Atelier Arkona, and Kunst im Küsterhus — are open on all three days from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Visitors can drop by the workshops unannounced, chat with the artists, and purchase original works directly.
The complete list of all participating studios in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will be published in the weeks before Pentecost on the official website of the Tourism Association Vorpommern and via the app »Kunst:Offen«. The registration period for participating artists ended in December 2025.
Exact addresses, route suggestions, and artist portraits will be published before Pentecost 2026 on the website and on flyers from local tourist information centers.
Admission to all participating studios is free. Works are sold directly by the artist; prices vary depending on size and technique. Bringing cash is recommended — not every studio accepts card payments.
By car via the B96 and L30 to Wittow. On the peninsula, a car is recommended as the participating studios are spread out — alternatively, a bicycle or e-bike. By train to Bergen auf Rügen, then by bus or rental vehicle.
Visiting the studios is free. The artists sell their works directly and appreciate conversations.
The map and program will be published on the official website of the Tourism Association Vorpommern before Pentecost. Recommendation: plan a route in advance — it is possible to visit 4–6 studios well in one day on Wittow.
