Free four-day open-air cultural festival since 1996 in the Hohenlohe town centre
Crailsheim, with around 35,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest medium-sized towns in the Schwäbisch Hall district (state of Baden-Württemberg) and the centre of northern Hohenlohe — a cultural region known for its distinct Franconian dialect, its vineyards along the Tauber river, and its strong civic traditions. Since 1996, the Kulturwochenende has brought the full diversity of contemporary stage and street art to the Crailsheim town centre every July for four days — and in a tradition that has been consistently free.
During the Kulturwochenende, the entire Crailsheim town centre becomes a festival mile: Marktplatz, Spitalplatz, the inner courtyard of the castle, Schillerplatz, and other squares are used for open-air stages. You wander from performance to performance — music on one stage, comedy on the next, street art in between — with no admission fee, no fences, no wristbands.
The 2026 line-up (29th edition) confirms the concept of mixed artist groups:
The Kulturwochenende is financed by sponsorships and private donations — there are no tickets and never will be. Those who want to support the festival can buy a festival pin as merchandise or donate directly to the working group. This consistency — 30 years of free festival in the heart of the town centre — makes the Kulturwochenende one of the most exemplary free cultural festivals in Baden-Württemberg.
The 29th edition of the Crailsheim Kulturwochenende spans four days and several open-air stages in the town centre — Marktplatz, Spitalplatz, the castle's inner courtyard, and other squares. You'll wander from stage to stage, enjoying comedy with Sascha Korf, Swiss Alpine humour with This Maag, big band jazz with the Matrix Big-Band, classical music with the Feuerbach Quartett, acrobatics with Tridiculous, and percussion with the Florian Leuthold Ensemble — all with free admission.
The complete 2026 programme will be published before the festival on kulturwochenende-crailsheim.de and in the official programme booklet.
