9th Edition — 10 Days of Art, Music, Literature, and Encounters at 17 Locations — March 13th to 22nd, 2026
The Kulturtage Lohmar are a central event format in the northern Rhein-Sieg district. They take place every two years and in 2026 will be in their 9th edition: Friday, March 13th to Sunday, March 22nd, 2026 — ten days of art, music, literature, and encounters. Mayor Matthias Schmitz summarizes the concept: "The Kulturtage enrich life in Lohmar and are a special gift for all citizens."
A special feature of the Kulturtage is the decentralized use of the city area: Over 30 events are spread across 17 venues — churches, community centers, restaurants, galleries, the library, schools, public spaces. On the program:
The majority of the events are free of charge — a deliberate decision by the city to keep culture accessible.
The Kulturtage traditionally open with the "Night of the Churches" on the first Friday evening (March 13th, 2026). Several Lohmar churches open their doors, featuring concerts (organ, choir, vocal ensembles), guided tours, meditations, and light installations. The Night of the Churches is one of the most popular formats and sets the mood for ten days of culture.
A special feature: The Kulturtage take place every two years, alternating with the "Games, Sports, and Family Festival – Lohmar in Motion", which is held in even-numbered years. Lohmar thus alternates between major cultural and sporting events — smart format design for a medium-sized city.
Lohmar, with around 32,000 inhabitants, is located in the Rhein-Sieg district, northeast of Bonn, at the transition from the Rhineland to the Bergisches Land. The city is spread across several districts (Lohmar Mitte, Donrath, Birk, Wahlscheid, among others), traversed by the Agger valley. The Kulturtage reflect this decentralized urban landscape — almost every district is involved.
The festival combines art, music, literature, workshops, and encounter formats distributed across all districts of Lohmar. Mayor Matthias Schmitz describes the Kulturtage as a "special gift for all citizens." Detailed program at kulturtage.lohmar.de.
