Three days of improvisation, independent music, and performance in the Buchholz Westerwald
What began as a small initiative in the Oberscheid district of Buchholz has developed over almost two decades into a valued meeting point for free improvisation, independent music, and the avant-garde in the Rhineland and beyond. The Kulturtag is organized by the Taftahü-Oberscheid e.V. association, which, with great volunteer effort, invites musicians and visual artists to the rural idyll of the Westerwald. The Kulturtag is listed in the event calendar of the Hachenburg administrative district and is featured in the program of the Rhineland-Palatinate "Kultursommer" (Cultural Summer) and on relevant festival platforms.
The program concept is deliberately kept open. It combines improvised music, new music, electronics, acoustics, vocal art, and performance with readings, painting, photography, sculpture, and installations. The event spaces and outdoor areas around Bonner Straße 21 are temporarily transformed into galleries and concert venues. Visual artists exhibit works, and performances often arise in dialogue with the audience.
Every year, the Kulturtag offers an open stage and numerous curated program blocks. The traditional highlight is the Oberscheid Allstars Happening on Sunday, where artists from the three festival days come together in spontaneous formations. This practice of joint improvisation shapes the festival's identity and clearly distinguishes it from classical concert series.
The Kulturtag consciously cultivates a family-like setting. Accommodation in private homes, shared meals, and short distances between the stage, studio, and garden create an atmosphere that encourages conversation between artists and the audience. Buchholz-Oberscheid is located in the western Westerwald and is easily accessible via the A 3 and B 8 highways.
The 18th edition continues the tradition of a festival that focuses on improvisation and encounters.
From the Open Stage to the Allstars Happening, Kulturtag offers continuous programming with music, art, and performance.
