Three-week small stage in Urbanus-Park Gelsenkirchen-Buer — Live music, cabaret, quiz, and prelude to Rock am Dom
The Kulturbiergarten Buer is one of the most charming small stage series in the northern Ruhr area. From Wednesday, July 29, to Sunday, August 16, 2026, Urbanus-Park in Gelsenkirchen's district of Buer — right in front of the Michaelshaus — will transform into an open cultural stage with an adjoining beer garden. Organized by the Förderverein Rock am Dom, the series serves as a prelude to the actual Rock-am-Dom weekend at the end of August (Aug. 28/29) — an elegant combination that merges two event formats (intimate, open-air small stage / loud, open-air festival) into a three-week Buer season.
At the heart of it is a 6-meter wide stage, with about 40 beer table sets offering shade in front of it. Drinks and food stands frame the area. Urbanus-Park itself is one of Buer's green lungs — old trees, urban character, right in the district center. The Michaelshaus, a traditional Catholic community center, forms the architectural backdrop of the event location.
Three weeks of programming mean an exceptionally dense event schedule:
Opening hours vary between 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM start, with most concerts beginning in the early evening. The complete daily program and ticket prices are available at rockamdom-kulturbiergarten.ticket.io.
The actual Rock-am-Dom festival will take place on August 28/29, 2026 — directly following the three-week Kulturbiergarten series. This allows the Förderverein Rock am Dom to amortize its event logistics (stage, bar, staff) over almost four weeks while catering to a more diverse audience: those who want to test the atmosphere before the main festival can come to the Kulturbiergarten in July/August.
Behind the event is the Förderverein Rock am Dom, which has been active for years as a volunteer cultural initiative in the Buer district. Proceeds from the concerts go towards the association's work and the financing of the main festival. Tickets via Ticket.io (encrypted connection with 256-bit encryption).
The district of Buer is Gelsenkirchen's northern center — historically a separate town, it was incorporated into Gelsenkirchen in 1928. To this day, Buer has a distinct character with active local life, plenty of gastronomy, and cultural initiatives. Anyone wanting to experience the Ruhr area beyond the major city center locations should visit Buer.
The 2026 edition offers three weeks of almost daily programming. Organizer Förderverein Rock am Dom curates a mix of live concerts, cabaret evenings, and popular quiz formats ('Charly's Rock & Pop Quiz', 'KneipenQuiz GelsenStyle'). Proceeds go to the association's work and the main festival.
