The largest district festival in the Hanseatic city of Rostock
The KTV-Fest is the largest district festival in the Hanseatic city of Rostock. Once a year, the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt – affectionately called KTV by its residents – transforms into an extensive open-air party zone for a whole day. From 12 PM to 10 PM, the festival activities stretch from Brink to Margaretenplatz, filling the streets of the neighbourhood with music, encounters, and events.
The KTV is Rostock's most densely populated district: around 20,000 people live here, many of them young residents and students. The neighbourhood is considered a trendy scene district with old-building charm, cafés, small shops, and a lively community. This character precisely shapes the KTV-Fest: it is less a large commercial event and more a festival for the residents, by the residents.
The KTV-Fest offers a diverse programme with several focal points. Dance clubs perform on Margaretenplatz, a design market stretches along Barnstorfer Weg, and a family zone invites visitors in the schoolyard of the Margaretenschule. In addition, there are music stages with live music, a craft market, a flea market, walking acts, and play activities for children. The Hanseatische Brauerei opens its doors for the festival, offering free admission to its brewery museum.
The KTV-Fest is organized year after year on a voluntary basis and without commercial interests by KTV e.V., the association for the neighbourhood. Funding comes partly from donations and crowdfunding campaigns, which aim to improve the festival's infrastructure, safety, and sustainability.
The festival is a firm fixture in the event calendar of the Hanseatic city of Rostock, the largest city in the Rostock district and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Visitors to the KTV-Fest experience the lifestyle of a lively big-city district on a single, long festival day.
