About Kreuzgang Konzerte Rommersdorf

The Kreuzgang Konzerte (Cloister Concerts) are among the special cultural experiences in the Neuwied district of Heimbach-Weis. In one of the oldest and best-preserved monastic cloisters in the Rhineland — the former Premonstratensian Abbey Rommersdorf — four concert evenings will take place in May 2026 with a total of around 200 seats. The spectrum ranges from Celtic-Irish folk music (Rambling Rovers) to the Cologne singer-songwriter tradition (Gerd Köster), a tribute to Simon & Garfunkel, and an acoustic concert by Simply Unplugged. All concerts start at 8 PM. Advance ticket sales are available through the city of Neuwied and established ticket agencies.

Abbey Rommersdorf — A Monastic Ensemble of European Stature

Abbey Rommersdorf was founded in 1117 as a monastery for Augustinian canons and later passed to the Premonstratensian order. It was an important spiritual and cultural center on the Middle Rhine until secularization in 1803. Today, the church, cloister, convent building, and the English Garden form an exceptionally well-preserved monastic ensemble, which is used for cultural events by the support association and the city of Neuwied.

The Cloister as a Concert Venue

The cloister is the heart of the monastery: a square inner walkway enclosed by Gothic arcades, combining acoustics and atmosphere. With approximately 200 seats, it offers a focused, intimate concert situation. The "Kreuzgang Konzerte" series utilizes this special feature for a deliberately curated program of folk, song, a cappella, acoustic rock, and sophisticated entertainment.

2026 Program — Four Evenings, Four Moods

On May 4th, the Rambling Rovers will open with Irish and Celtic folk; on May 6th, Gerd Köster will follow with his program "Bla Bla & Dei dei," a tribute to Cologne singer-songwriters; on May 18th, the Simon & Garfunkel Revival Band will recreate the sound of the American folk icons; the series will conclude on May 20th with the acoustic project Simply Unplugged. All concerts begin at 8 PM.

Before and After the Concert

Many visitors combine the concert evening with a stroll through the Abbey's English Garden or a small refreshment at the monastery café. The monastic ensemble itself is also accessible during the day in the summer months.

Kreuzgang Konzerte Rommersdorf — edition 2026

The 2026 Kreuzgang Konzerte at Rommersdorf Abbey feature four concert evenings: Monday, May 4th with the Rambling Rovers (Irish/Celtic Folk), Wednesday, May 6th with Gerd Köster and his program "Bla Bla & Dei dei" (Cologne Song Tradition), Monday, May 18th with the Simon & Garfunkel Revival Band, and Wednesday, May 20th with Simply Unplugged (Acoustic Pop/Rock). All concerts start at 8 PM in the historic cloister with approximately 200 seats.

Advance ticket sales for the 2026 series have already begun. The intimate atmosphere of the cloister and the curated selection of programs attract concert-goers from across the Middle Rhine region and the Westerwald.
