Three Days of Brass Music for the 60th Anniversary on the Main
The Music Association Stammheim 1966 e.V. was founded in 1966 and has been an integral part of village life in Stammheim am Main, the largest wine-growing village in the Schweinfurt district, for decades. For its 50th anniversary in 2016, the association had already hosted a grand anniversary weekend — in 2026, the 60th anniversary will be combined with hosting the Kreismusikfest of the North Bavarian Music Association, elevating it to a new level.
A Kreismusikfest (KMF) is the annual grand gathering of all member associations of an NBMB district association. Associations from the entire Schweinfurt district — music bands, youth orchestras, drum corps — come together for a weekend, participate in competition performances at various difficulty levels, take part in the parade and the mass choir, and celebrate together in the festival tent. For the host, organizing the KMF is a major logistical undertaking; for the region, it is a major musical event.
Stammheim is part of the municipality of Kolitzheim, nestled among the vineyards of the Main Triangle in the Franconian wine region. The village is considered the largest wine-growing village in the Schweinfurt district and is also known for its street wine festival, which traditionally takes place a few weeks after the Kreismusikfest. Visitors to the KMF can combine brass music with Franconian wine and enjoy one of the most beautiful locations on the Main River.
The KMF weekend is not the only date in the anniversary year: The Music Association Stammheim 1966 is bringing together musical highlights throughout 2026 — from the street wine festival in July, the Kerwa (church fair) pub sing-along in August, to the Musical Wine Tasting in October and the Autumn Concert at the end of November. Those interested in experiencing the association's life will have ample opportunity in 2026.
The 2026 Kreismusikfest in Stammheim has been officially designated by the NBMB (North Bavarian Music Association) as the KMF for the Schweinfurt district association — a date set at the general assembly of member associations and viewable on the NBMB event page.
The weekend follows the classic KMF structure: Opening with a gala evening on Friday, competition performances on Saturday in the local venues, a grand gala evening with a dance band and show acts on Saturday evening, a festival mass and early-bird reception on Sunday morning, the grand parade of participating associations through Stammheim on Sunday afternoon, followed by a mass choir of all bands and the festival finale.
The detailed program overview with times, order of competition performances, and parade route will be published a few weeks before the festival on musikvereinstammheim.de.
