Festive Replacement for the 2026 District Shooting Festival

In the Landkreis Rotenburg (Wümme), the classic Kreisschützenfest (District Shooting Festival) will not take place in 2026 for exceptional reasons. The reason is the lack of a voluntary host club, a challenge currently faced by many shooting districts in Lower Saxony. To ensure that the shooting year in the district still has a worthy highlight, the Kreisschützenbund Rotenburg (Wümme) is organizing a Kreiskönigsball (District King's Ball) for the first time.

What is a Kreiskönigsball?

The Kreiskönigsball is a festive shooting ball that puts the reigning district monarchs in the spotlight. The district kings, district queens, youth kings, and junior kings are presented and honored, along with the king couples from the member clubs. It is a representative evening event with a ceremonial procession, honors, dancing, and socializing. In contrast to the multi-day Kreisschützenfest with its parade, shooting competitions, and festival tent, the ball focuses on a single evening.

Kreisschützenbund Rotenburg (Wümme)

The Kreisschützenbund Rotenburg (Wümme) is the umbrella organization for shooting clubs in the district. It unites the numerous shooting clubs, shooting guilds, and shooting societies from the towns and municipalities of the district, including Rotenburg (Wümme), Bremervörde, Visselhövede, Sottrum, Scheeßel, Zeven, and many others. The KSV organizes the annual district shooting festival, the district shooting competition, as well as other competitions and training courses.

Shooting Tradition in the North

The shooting club landscape in the Landkreis Rotenburg (Wümme) is one of the densest in Lower Saxony. Hundreds of clubs, often with over 100 years of tradition, shape village life in the region. The Kreiskönigsball signals that the tradition lives on and is valued, despite organizational challenges.

Outlook for 2027

The Kreisschützenbund has already announced that the Kreisschützenfest will take place again in its usual scope in 2027. Clubs interested in hosting in the coming years are invited to contact the KSV.
