Kraftklub on a Grand Summer Tour 2026 in NRW

The Chemnitz-based band Kraftklub has been one of the most influential indie rock formations in the German-speaking music scene since 2009. With frontman Felix Kummer – brother of rapper Trettmann and a chart-topping solo artist himself – the Sterben in Karl-Marx-Stadt Tour comes to Mönchengladbach in 2026. It's one of the few open-air stops in North Rhine-Westphalia and one of the major pop highlights of the summer in the Rhineland.

SparkassenPark at the Hockeypark – Mönchengladbach's Open-Air Stage

The concert venue is the SparkassenPark Mönchengladbach in the Mönchengladbach-Hockeypark district, one of the most renowned open-air venues in Western Germany. The facility at the Hockeypark can accommodate tens of thousands of spectators and has become the premier destination for stadium concerts between Düsseldorf and Aachen over the past 20 years. In 2026, around 16 major concerts will take place here – Kraftklub on July 3 is a key highlight.

The Album Sterben in Karl-Marx-Stadt – Background to the Tour

The tour is in support of the band's fifth studio album, Sterben in Karl-Marx-Stadt, released on November 28, 2025. The album title plays on the former GDR name of Chemnitz, the band's hometown. The album announcement was a marketing story in itself: at the end of May 2025, a giant poster appeared in Chemnitz, leading to a spontaneous surprise concert where the band played the new single Schief in jedem Chor live for the first time. The tour will feature songs from the new album, classics from previous albums, and the typical stage energy of the Chemnitz band.

An Open-Air Concert with a Grand Stage Design

Open-air concerts at the SparkassenPark are not like indoor arena shows – here, you play outdoors, often with daylight and evening light behind you. Admission is around 5 PM, show starts at 8 PM. Expect a multi-hour set with an elaborate lighting production, one or two opening acts (not yet officially confirmed at the time of going to press), and the usual on-site festival catering: bratwurst, fries, burgers, beer, and soft drinks.

Who Should Go to Kraftklub

Fans of indie rock between Tocotronic, Beatsteaks, and newer acts like AnnenMayKantereit will be in their element. Kraftklub stands for lyrically strong, often political German rock with punk and hip-hop roots. Felix Kummer raps, shouts, and sings – his lyrics reflect the experiences of a generation navigating East-West Germany in a reunified country.
