One of Germany's largest summer night festivals on Lake Constance
In 1953, the city of Konstanz organized its first Lake Festival on Lake Constance — conceived as a summer highlight for the city's residents and their guests. Over 70 years later, this festival has become one of Germany's largest and most renowned summer night festivals. Annually, the Konstanz summer evenings, the spectacular fireworks, and the Mediterranean atmosphere on the Konstanz lakefront attract hundreds of thousands of visitors — from all over the German-speaking world, Switzerland, and Austria.
The 2026 edition marks a turning point in the festival's history: For the first time, drones, light art, and classic fireworks will merge into a three-dimensional spectacle. Over 500 synchronized drones from the renowned company DroneDreams will form images, texts, and moving patterns in the sky. Simultaneously, the traditional musical fireworks will be launched from a pontoon in the middle of the lake, complemented by light installations along the shore promenade. This staging is considered one of the most innovative in Germany and will set new standards in 2026 — also ecologically, as the classic fireworks have been reduced by 60% compared to previous years.
The festival grounds extend over several hundred meters of the shore promenade and are divided into four zones: The Stadtgarten offers a family program with children's activities, hands-on stations, and a relaxed atmosphere. The Konzilvorplatz is the main stage with concerts by nationally recognized acts. The Hafenstraße is a promenade with catering stands, food trucks, cocktail bars, and street food. Klein Venedig — the picturesque group of houses at the Rhine outlet of Lake Constance — is the Party Hub with a DJ stage. In 2026, DJ Felix Jaehn, one of Germany's most successful DJs ("Cheerleader" remix), will perform here. Additionally, there is a new picnic area on Seestraße.
The Lake Festival is a cross-border event — the town of Kreuzlingen on the Swiss side of Lake Constance hosts its own Lake Festival, which is integrated with the Konstanz program. The grand musical fireworks are launched from the middle of Lake Constance and can be admired from both sides of the lake — a magical staging that connects two countries.
Konstanz, with around 87,000 inhabitants, is the largest city on Lake Constance and home to the University of Konstanz — one of Germany's most prestigious research institutes. The historic old town with the Konzilgebäude (site of the Council of Constance 1414–1418), the Imperia statue at the harbor, and Klein Venedig make Konstanz one of Germany's most beautiful cities. The Lake Festival lends the city a very special atmosphere in late summer — a mix of a Volksfest (public festival), a big city event, and Lake Constance romance.
The Konstanz Lake Festival 2026 will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM on the Konstanz lakefront. The festival marks a turning point in its history: for the first time, over 500 drones, light art, and classic fireworks will merge into a three-dimensional staging over Lake Constance.
