Annual highlight of the Gronau Leine marksmen's club with King's Shoot and Proclamation
The King's Shoot is more than just a sporting competition in marksmanship: it is an expression of the dignity associated with the office of Queen or King. In Gronau, the club traditionally meets in the afternoon to hold the competition in several classes – often for pupils, youth, ladies, gentlemen, and seniors.
After the competition concludes, the proclamation takes place on the club grounds: the new dignitaries are presented by the chairman, adorned with chain and insignia, and solemnly inducted into office. Guest speakers deliver greetings, and a fife and drum corps or a band provides musical accompaniment to the ceremony. Afterwards, the club invites guests to a social gathering in the festival tent or the clubhouse.
The town of Gronau an der Leine is one of the historically developed municipalities in the west of the Hildesheim district. Marksmanship has been closely linked to civic identity here for centuries. The Gronau Leine marksmen's club cultivates this tradition with great dedication and, with the King's Shoot each year, reminds us how much customs and club life can shape the character of a town.
Each year, the royal dignity is awarded to the person who achieves the symbolic 'king's shot' in the athletic competition. In Gronau, this event is one of the most emotional moments of the club year.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Gronau Leine marksmen's club in the weeks leading up to the event. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years: opening at 3:00 PM, King's Shoot in various classes, evaluation, proclamation of the new majesties with greetings and musical accompaniment, and a convivial conclusion in the festival tent or clubhouse.
The King's Shoot with Proclamation will take place on September 5, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM.
